GORGE, totally (and smart and nice, to boot). We were walking down the street together and I watched 20something guys literally turning around to watch her as she went by. She's a wee thing even when she's not 100#--she could not have been more than 110# when me met. Though we're the same height, I look like a truck next to her with my Scandinavian Crush body type.

I don't doubt what she writes is true, yet I also know that when I was a dancin' ho, the month I made the most money--probably triple my nightly average--I was the very very biggest I ever was in that job. (Probably 130 or so, but very untoned). So it can vary widely. So to speak.

I'll cheerfully keep my weight down to a couture 4 when I'm paid at least half a million a year as incentive. But that ain't gonna happen, ever. So bring on the crullers and let the skinny-mini chasers go hassle all the ectomorphs. Viva la Spanx.

And you can eat whatever you want! In fact, I believe this was a weight loss method in the 60s or 70s? I'm not 100% sure on how common it was but my friend's mom purposly got one to lose weight. It works great but the downside is that Tapey eats everything, including all the vitamins and nutrients you need to stay alive. So then you have to take some pill to kill it and poop it out. Gross.

And I think the reason some men find rexie girls attractive is the same reason women want to be rexie skinny. They've been socialized to think skinny women are beautiful. Our perceptions of beauty are so incredibly tied w/our culture, society, and economy (skinny girls weren't always the ideal - it used to be bigger girls, cause they were rich and could afford to eat) that to say men just like skinny girls ignores the fact that they've just grown up in a society where it's a big indicator of status to have the time and energy to be waif thin.

Finally, I don't know about the menz, but i've slept w/uber skinny guys before and hate the bruises their hip bones leave. Ouch.

Then, just a few months ago, he brought up how much he liked how "skinny" I am during sex, and I was genuinely taken aback, particularly within the context. It wasn't that I didn't expect him to like skinny girls--I know that he has strong negative views towards overweight and out-of-shape people--but I was confused because I wondered if it was something that really turned him on, or if he just thought it was something that I wanted to hear. I think it was intended to be a kind complement, but at the same time I felt a little weird, like I was being praised for being too thin in a spectacle sense, even if it's the way I am.

I do believe that people find skinniness attractive independently. I do, actually. But even if the influence of the fashion industry isn't completely to blame, it still makes me feel uncomfortable.

Honestly, I am not sure. I'm hesitant to make comments about what guys really like because I feel like they'll buy the porn that's out there, and the porn that's out there is the same ol' mainstream media shit. It's *harder* to find porn with regular-looking chicks! (And I know because I try.) Plus, as many commenters have noted, different dudes have different tastes. I know a (complete asshole) guy who won't date a woman over a size 2 and when I tried to ask him what was so appealing about thin women he said their thinness implied wealth and class. This is a guy who lives in an apartment with a bathroom in the hallway and thinks a croque madame is the ultimate culinary achievement of the french.

I find my body constantly critiqued in all aspects of life. At 5'6" 110 pound with a natural 32 D bust and round butt, I can never find any clothes that fit even though I am barely a 2. Magazines tell me that to be fashionably you ribs must protrude and you bust be almost infantile. However when I worked in retail I found I was constantly accused of being anorexic by larger women. I guess my point is lets stop the criticizing the issue is not about size at all its about health. Lest try to promote that not rag on people because of size.

Some imperfections, even. If you were born skinny as a rail I'm not hating on you, but don't ever feel the need to drop below 120 pounds to impress me. I got down to about 98 pounds, which on my frame just looked very slim, not sickly. However, no boys took notice. Or if they did, they never said anything to me. Now I'm the size that could stand to lose 10-20 pounds, with big boobs and a little pot belly. Boys still don't take any notice. But I'm told this is because I don't wear low cut tops to show off my, erm, assets. The bigger problem, though, is probably that I live in Boston, where the boys are either 22 (too young for me), married, or gay.

Now I'm back to a weight that's more normal for me, and have gotten a little curvier over the last few years, and I get more attention about my chest and my ass when I go out to bars and stuff.

I'd say this article is right on, for this particular type of men, anyway. As many have already mentioned, quite obviously not all men are into the waif thing.

I've been trying to refrain from commenting because (a) I have work that needs doing and (b) I try not to comment on other people's weight because I don't like it when people comment on mine.

I don't know if 100 pounds is a healthy weight for her. I know that, for me, it wasn't (stomach flu + lots of stress = too-skinny high school clever), but for a friend of mine, who's kind of a mini-sized person, it is. Different strokes for different folks and remember, this is Elle.
