1) Of course there are people having sex, partying, etc., but they make up a very small minority. I did not realize how small till my senior year when I met other undergrads who were not in Finals clubs and/or played sports and it was really like another world. Not only is Harvard very isolationist, it is very segregated in RE: to who you spend time with

2) There are many people of "faith" that I met while at Harvard, more so than in any other environment in my life. I have found that people who regularly attend church have a tendency to take sexual commitments very seriously, i.e. one of my blockmates who finally lost her V-Card at 27

3) UHS, the school hospital, administers these surveys to students once a year and I believe you have to take it as part of your coverage, so they tend to get a pretty healthy sample size

4) 1/3 of students are on anti-depressants, so perhaps their is a no-sex = depressed link

5) I was kind of a drunken slut while I was there so, really, anything is possible if you want it to be ;-)

]]> <![CDATA[]]> As a student of a highly-ranked university (whatever that means) where the sexual activity is equally dismal, I personally attribute the high number of virgins to the over-achieving ideals that are ingrained into the minds of students from age 4. They just aren't socialized to include sexual and romantic fulfillment as a priority, or as important for mental health.

I may not have a 4.0 GPA, but I do have a lot of sex. I think the trade-off is well worth it.
