I got Lash Blast waterproof and am not liking it. Clumpy and unattractive unless I comb the hell out of it. And damn near impossible to get off. I need a waterproof because of my allergies and the resulting eye drops. Thinking about Diorshow next time I'm in Nordstrom. I like L'Oreal's Voluminous and Cover Girl's Lash Exact OK, but I haven't found a mascara that I'm madly in love with yet.

And I love Tom Robbins, but I have a higher threshold for his sort of writing. I am a sucker for strange and enjoyable turns of phrase, and Robbins plays with the language the way few other authors do.

OK, I think it's the most expensive mascara, but you gotta try DIOR. It the best. My lashes need it and it makes them look really good. My makeup artist for my wedding worked for Trish McEvoy, hired by the Trish McEvoy, and she still hid the Dior mascara in the bottom of her bag. It was the only thing that wasn't Trish.

@BiscuitDoughJones: I found salvation with Clinique High Definition Mascara. I have blonde, very sparse lashes and this stuff is the shit. I got a sample size in one of their giveaways and went back and busted with the $20 to get a full size tube. It has a brush with a built in comb (not like Maybelline) that seems to separate and really define my barely there lashes. Doesn't seem to flake or smudge, either.

It's commonly stated that the Phoenician queen Jezebel was killed for being a pagan - worshipping the god Baal - but Robbins explains that "baal" was the Phoenician term for "husband." Hers was a politically arranged marriage yet she was killed for honoring her husband. Nice.

Disclaimer: that's what Robbins says in the book. I haven't done any independent research on the subject.

@BiscuitDoughJones: The good thing about Rimmel is the super cheapness. It's even cheap for drugstore mascara. So throwing it away isn't a total loss.

I have yet to find the perfect mascara. Though I will say a dark horse was Bonne Bell (yes, Bonne fucking Bell) Eye Style for a light, go to work mascara. And it was 2 bucks, or something.

But for a really decent mascara, alas, I'm still lost.

@hortense: Yeah. The thing about the two I just mentioned is that the shelf life is not so good. Rimmel's good for a month, tops, then throw it out, cuz it gets really clumpy. And the other is good for maybe two months before it's Clumpsville.

I also liked Revlon Volume Shocking, but you have be patient with it and work it on slowly. Which is why I say "fuck it" and slick on one of the above and be done with it.
