If the group that came back was the Oceanic 6, whoever is in the coffin is one of them. Meaning that with Kate, Jack, Hurley and the coffin person, that only leaves 2 spots.

I rephrase what I said. Let me clarify:

1) Screengrabs are up. Maybe Christian Shepard isn't supposed to be their "leader" but there is a veryyy strong connection with Jacob. Look at this grab from last night in Jacob's cabin:

2) Flash-backs are not dead. We need a few more flashbacks on Rose to find out why she hates Locke, as she exclaimed "I'm not going anywhere with that man." Rose and Bernard will be getting more screentime this season. Also, we will need a flashback perhaps on Naomi to tell us who her sister is. When she died her instruction was, "tell my sister I love her." LOST has a very strong sister connection (i.e. Shannon and Boone's somewhat incestuous Romeo and Juliet relationship; Juliet joining the Darma initiative to assist her cancer ridden sister; Jack and Claire are most probably half sisters through Christian Shepard [further lending credence to my Christian Shepard having magical powers theory seeing as though Claire is the 1st woman who was able to give birth on the island]; AnaLucia joined the police force because her sister was a meth-head and she vowed to avenge her drug dealer; etc) So who is Naomi's sister? Possibly Nadia? Need more information. But the flashbacks will be supplemented by flash-forwards, if not to spice things up but if anything to elaborate on the "Oceanic 6" story.

3) As far as Desmond bringing down the plane was concerned, I still maintain that this is a red herring thrown out by the writers. This may have been a mere coincidence to what was going on on a DIFFERENT side of the island. Remember in the season premier of Season 4 we watched the "Others" in their bookclub meeting when the plane came down? The writers like to play with the lapse of time which occurred in those detrimental minutes before the plane came down.

Little Easter Egg for the "numbers" freaks...Hurley was playing Connnect Four in the mental institution so there's our first "4" of the season.

And yes for the record I am a bored law student who does not pay attention in class.

Not to straight discount any theory about this show because... y'know, LOST, but I think it's also perfectly plausible that saying that Michael (who appears this season as a regular and so therefore definitly comes back and could totally be part of the Oceanic 6 or just the general group of people to get off the island [for instance, if Juliet escapes, she would not be counted as part of the 6 because she wasn't on the flight]) MURDERED her and Hurley's Island love Libby might be too painful for him to discuss. And that would be perfectly in keeping with his character, as we know he prefers to avoid unpleasant situations instead of confronting and dealing with them.

We are so, so far away from having enough backstory. We're missing hugely important things in bth the pasts and futures of just about every character on the show.

If this was in jest, I apologize for the seriousness of my reply but: NO. WAY.

A. The Island doesn't want Jack as its leader, it wants Locke as its leader hence the "Help me" Jacob said to him last season. Also, when Hurley stumbles on Jacob's house and you see his silhouette in the rocking chair, and then that eye pops up in the window, it is CLEARLY Locke's eye (ok, maybe only kinda clearly... we had to rewind a couple times, but then we were absolutely certain), so Locke had himself a secret private meeting with the man in charge. I wanna know what they talked about!

B. Desmond crashed the plane when he let the counter run down after he accidentally killed Kelvin. That was established in Season 2 and has never been challenged by the subsequent writing and mythology.

3) Whose funeral did Jack attend in the season finale? I have no thoughts on this.

4) This is going to be a long, drawn-out next seven episodes. Remember that the show goes through five complete seasons before it ends. Ugh!

Also, this episode is a pre-quel to the flash forward we saw last season, as evidenced by the fact that Jack told Hurley, "I want to grow a beard." So the flash foward that we saw last season, which shows a bearded Jack trying to get back on the island by utilizing Oceanic's free flight compensation, is clip No. 2 in the flash forward schematic. I am sure this is the new sequence, seeing as though they have already done enough flashbacks for every member of the flight.

This episode was a mediocre 7, but shows a lot of potential for the season.
