Some of Sherri's ignorance on the most basic of things--like voting and the history of Western civilization--can be traced back to her Jehovah's Witness upbringing. The JWs are very big in Chi-town and surrounding. They don't vote (I'm pretty sure that @Lymed's coffee shop barista upthread was one).

Sherri isn't a Witness anymore but I don't know exactly when she left them and joined the Twentieth Century (no, she *isn't* here with us in the Twenty-First yet). At least now she's interested--but what a heck of a learning curve!

Not shocking. I remember when I was going to vote for the first time--I had just turned 18, and as I was walking out the door to class I got a call saying that I was improperly registered. I have no idea how that happened as I just did it about a month ago when I got a new driver's licence. I wasn't allowed to vote unless I could get across town to sign something, and there was no way for me to.

I was pissed. This was also in Florida four years ago, so who the hell knows WHAT happened.
