AA, for reasons I've not yet been able to intellectualise, has become one of my favourite places, even though I used to laugh at the clothes and the Hipster Youth. Even though I'm a US 10, there are still items that fit me and look good - the hoodie sweaters are perfect for hiding my muffin-top and exposing my legs to flattering effect, which is what I call a result. Like I say, I don't remember how I made the crossover. I worked in London's Soho and was probably light-headed from the poppers I sniffed in a local sex shop one lunchtime.

One thing apparent from the video and my own experiences is that AA really need to fix up as far as consistent sizing goes; an XL can be a complete tent in one style, or make me look as if I've been poured into it and someone forgot to say 'when'. Never a good look, no matter how much cardio one does.

They encourage fast labor and are anti-union - major problems. It's hardly a perfect company, but it's probably the most ethically conscious American clothing retailer operating at the level of the Gap or the Limited.

Digg jerks, post some pictures of yourselves looking so allegedly skinny and hot in these american apparel clothes before you expect anyone to take you seriously. I have never once in my life seen anyone dressed the way the kids in the AA ads are, and thank god for that, because their clothes are so offensively bland and crappy that only the most boring vapid hipster jerks would dress that way. Even though the clothes in this store are supposed to be designed for plus-size women (starts at size 12), there is no way the actual size of the clothing will fit plus-size women. Its a bad idea to try and stuff plus-sized women into thin, clingy sheer materials as well.

It's flimsy as hell, too.

There's an AA downstairs from a yoga studio I frequent in an up-and-coming neighborhood near me. In at least a year I've never seen anyone buying anything in there. I do have a friend who is skinny enough to wear some of their stuff, who tried to get me to shop there with her. It wasn't a very long visit.
