]]> <![CDATA[OMG! It's The <i>Sex And The City</i> Movie Trailer!]]> Funny thing is that the book isn't anything like the tv show. The book's premise was that a woman could behave just like a man in the sexual/social arena and no one would castigate you for it.
While I did watch the show, and for a time was entranced with the way the played out the friendships- everyone was very supportive of each other- and let's face it, most tv shows that have women characters play them as "frenemies," this one didn't.
But...as I watched episodes I had seen before, I started to pick up on things that really annoyed me. Carrie for all of her supposed worldliness, acted, many times, as an intractable spoiled teenager. The other characters arcs and growth became stunted and it the show devolved into what were they wearing that week.
The most alarming outgrowth of the show, to me, anyway, was meeting young women who moved to New York City who truly believed that's the way the city really is! They confused fact with fiction, and I couldn't decide whether or not to pity them for their shattered dreams, or feel utter disgust for their (apparent) stupidity. It is, after all, only a TV show.
All this hoopla that is going on now over the filming of the movie and this "teaser trailer" doesn't bode well for the movie. Yes, we'll end up with more flocks of young things trying to dress uniquely (in reality copying each other)and wondering why they can't get a writing gig that pays them ooodles of money like Carrie.

I'm thinking it begins and ends with them packing her up to move and along the way they keep finding artifacts and possibly an old videotape or two that thrusts them into the past and segs into flashbacks and the whole thing is flashbacks leading up to the present and then at the end they're all hanging out and they see again how close they are and everything they've been through and that they'll be friends forever. then it maybe goes into the present for a bit and ends with something epic like her wedding.

Marketing a film can cost as much (or more in lower budgeted films) than the movie itself in some cases. Nobody throws down cash for a "teaser trailer" unless it's absolutely necessary. They don't do this for "fun" or because they're so excited--they are trying to incite excitement in the target audience. The number of films that were released when The Shining was released and now makes it a lacking comparison. Compare all of the films coming out now (Oscar season) and their marketing campaigns to what SATC is doing. Not a peep until the film opens. No money need be spent to get movie patron's butts in seats for something like There Will Be Blood.
