Funny, I work in porn marketing and it turns out that when guys are getting off, they love Asians, Blacks, Latinas, and Jewish women more so than skinny white blondes, if our sales are anything to show for it. Maybe the advertisers are the racist ones, but the people have spoken! What they wank to is more telling than what some writers at snobby mags list.

Just as mentioned before, I'm not surprised that the list are they way they are. It's very superficial and most of the time when portrayed in a magazine an attraction to Asian women are only seen as a fetish. I think it's so rude to make a list of the most unsexiest women!! The women on that list are earning tons of money, probably more than the people can say who actually made that list! Also, KATE BECKINSALE is Eurasian! Google it.

@The One: This post referred to Jews who are stereotypically Jewish in appearance (Ashkenazi is what I think she was going for), which is a reference to Jews as an ethnic group. Most Jews I know consider themselves of Jewish ethnicity. Now, in all reality, you were right when you said "technically" in terms of the religious inclusion. However, by ethnicity, they are still Jewish.

I think Wikipedia puts it best: A Jew is a member of the Jewish people, an ethnoreligious group originating in the Israelites or Hebrews of the ancient Middle East. The ethnicity and the religion of Judaism, the traditional faith of the Jewish nation, are strongly interrelated, and converts to Judaism are both included and have been absorbed within the Jewish people throughout the millennia.

Oy, this stuff is messed up. No matter what the men's magazines tell me about what is hot or how I'm not, my favorite features are my big nose and mess of curly hair thanks to my Italian/Jewish heritage. I like that I don't fit into some ideal mathematical norm (since men measure what's sexy by math--kiss my ass, spaceman7). I think the fact that I am totally confident in my own skin makes me alot sexier than some plastic woman who's constantly freaked-out that she isn't measuring up to some stupid ideal.

The people politicking for one Rule-Exception or another have to accept that men generally evaluate things logically, And women think mostly based on Emotion.

You're upset at people's statement of Preferences b/c you see it as a Refusal to Accept Imperfections; -which you see in yourself daily (and possibly distort, too; 'Thanks, Hollywood!').

The Maxim list seems totally egregious, but the EW situation is a little more complicated.

Please permit some light statistical wonkery on this subject for a moment.

About 1.4 percent of the U.S. population identifies as Jewish ([www.gc.cuny.edu]). Due to characteristics of binomial distributions, if we took a completely random sample of 25 women (the number of women in the EW thing) in the U.S. there would only be about a 25% chance of selecting 1 Jewish woman and a 5% chance of selecting more than one Jewish woman. Therefore, it is hard to argue, based on the numbers, that ladies of the tribe were necessarily underrepresented in the EW sample.

Since I'm on the topic and have some numbers... that same random sample of 25 U.S. women should have an 82% chance of having more than one black woman (and a 96% chance of having at least one black woman) and should have a 67% chance of having at least one Asian woman. Since there are no black or Asian women in their sample, there is a case that could be made that EW is choosing to underrepresent black and Asian women.

THAT is your story. Also that Maxim fucking sucks.

@jezebeljess: Just to clarify, I didn't think it ruined your overall point -- which was quite valid. It's just as a fellow smaller nosed Jew, I happen to think Phoebe Cates does have a Jewish look to her. As does the small nosed N. Portman, who didn't happen to make the list in question, but is usually featured prominently in any who's hot list.

Actually, my opinions are not here or there to my argument, the point is Jews, because there are so few of them in the general population, are almost always over, not under, represented on such lists. Just by showing up at all, they are usually over-represented.

I think when making racial and ethnic distinctions as far as who is represented where, it's important to keep in mind that the country is roughly 70 percent white 13 percent black, 2 percent Jewish, etc. That's not even getting into the actual audience for these magazines. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine, being a statistically oriented person, but when people over look this, it really irks me.

It's not just a stereotypically Jewish thing. It's any and all people with large noses. Remember Italians rival Jews in the nose department!

As a side note, I have hate hate these sort of things. Maybe I'm biased and all (being asian) but there is something so unbelievably depressing and disheartening when you hear someone say they just don't think your entire ethnic group (or any entire ethnic group ) is attractive. It sucks because people get so brain washed into what is "beautiful". I sat next to this woman on the plane who couldn't believe that I still identified myself as half black since you know I didn't have those "black" features, and I was so pretty. I looked at her in shock said I didn't know what "black" features were (yes she told me -sigh-) and that I think women of all cultures and with all features are beautiful. Thankfully she immediately was like oh gosh that was terrible of me, just because it is what I am used to doesn't mean it is better, etc but it didn't change what she said.
It's sad because people see all these white cheerleader types on TV and in magazines and if they happen to see a mixed person they are as white as humanly possible and if even if you try not to be affected by it, subconsciously it hits all of us.

Also, SJP has her pretty days. And my top 5 Female Good Looks list (if anyone cares) are: Angelina Jolie (although 10 pounds heavier, circa "Bone Collector"), Shakira, Kelis (her style moreso), and (interchangably) Riley Keough (Lisa Marie's daughter)/Rachel Bilson, etc.

Even if it's once in a blue moon. if I recall correctly, Zhang Ziyi (!!!!!) was on the cover of Town & Country in 2005 or 2006. T&C regularly feature interracial couples in their marriage annoucements too.

When I used to listen to the Opie and Anthony show, one of the best moments EVAR was when they were cracking on the SATC cast and SJP called in. They didn't think it was really her at first but I recognized the immediately. She ripped into them for being cruel to her castmates and saying she looked like Ruth Buzzi. They were - at least for that day - quite chastened.

That is really cruel and it could actually do damage to SJP's career. If you're a Hollywood studio executive pondering casting her in a romantic comedy, would the fact that she topped that list not give you pause (although I saw Failure to Launch and someone really should have rethought that casting).

In any event, but she IS an example of a woman who would look so much softer and prettier if she just ate something. If she was 20 pounds heavier she'd be 20 times prettier. Angular, bony faces like hers need meat on them to soften the lines. Jennifer Aniston is another woman who looks so much prettier when she's heavier.
