It was kind of refreshing. And I'm not a fan of their ads, but they have the most real-looking models of any company that comes to mind.

I would also guess that being openly opposed to something, however violently, is not going to change the way in which the capitalist world works. Even if loads of bored, under-(mentally!)stimulated, intelligent and un-airbrushed women comment in their masses to agree and generally get all hairy-armpitty and empowered about it.

Infact, I would even go so far as to suggest that it's pretty darned clever to use money offered by a company that endorses airbrushing and unrealistic female stereotyping to run a website that campaigns against it.

Jezebel likes to proclaim its supposed opposition to airbrushing, however earlier this week, Jezebel featured several advertisements from American Apparel that featured a seemingly malnourished and definitely airbrushed young woman who looked to be about 14. She was in an inappropriately sexy advertisement for swimwear. I know sex sells and it wouldn't be an effective ad if it featured an overweight 65-year-old, but all of this bragging by Jezebel seems a bit hypocritical to me. Or is it o.k. to airbrush when Jezebel is the one getting money in return as opposed to a competitor like Redbook?
