Worst Winter Ever Leads to East Coast Snow Boot Shortage

Latest

As you probably know, this winter fucking sucks. Snowmageddon. Snowpocalypse. Snow Momma hosted by Wilmer Valderrama. For most of America, the past few months has been a bleak constant stream of blizzards, cold weather, sunless days and seasonal affective disorder. But wait! It’s not over yet! Winter is hanging around and offering up a totally new humiliation!

Out here on the east coast, stores are currently facing a snow boot shortage that’s leaving a whole lot of coasties without proper foot protection. With the snow still falling (kill me) and shops bringing in their spring collections, stores have been ill-prepared for the onslaught of customers still requesting functional warm and waterproof boots. Sizes are limited and styles even less so.

From The New York Times:

“We are completely short, completely out of stock at this point,” said Brian Rosener, 34, the manager of the Eastern Mountain Sports store at Broadway and 76th Street who has worked at the store on and off for 15 years. “This is the most thorough sell-through that I’ve seen.”

Rosener adds:

“It’s been a tough winter to stay ahead of the curve. We’ve gotten very good at apologizing and finding other stores to get the products in.”

So it looks like a large number of people out east (especially those in New York City) will be spending the next couple months having to slog through the lake-like puddles of slush that appear on every corner, all while wearing improper footwear to boot (HACHA!). This — as any one who understands cold climates knows — is in violation of the two most important rules of surviving winter: 1. Cover your goddamn ears and 2.) keep your feet dry.

Now is the winter of our discontent.
