World's Worst 911 Dispatcher Tells Rape Victim to 'Quit Crying'

A Columbus, Ohio 911 dispatcher is getting a flaccid slap on the wrist for telling a rape victim who dialed the emergency line immediately after being violently assaulted last weekend to “quit crying.”

The 20-year-old rape victim was staying at a friend’s house just off OSU’s campus when she awoke to find a strange man holding a gun to her head and demanding sex acts in exchange for not killing her. After he escaped from the house, the victim dialed 911, only to reach an operator who acted — to use the technical phrase here — like a total fucking asshole. According to ABC6, the victim didn’t know the house’s exact address because she didn’t live there. And so, when the dispatcher asked what her address was, the victim didn’t have answers. This annoyed the dispatcher.

VICTIM: Is there any way you can locate where my phone is right now?

DISPATCHER: No. We can’t. That’s why I need to know where you are.

The dispatcher then asked what happened, and this exchange occurred.

VICTIM: Small male white boy, with a white shirt. [crying] Immediately arrest him. I’m nervous.

DISPATCHER: Ma’am, you’re gonna have to quit crying so I can get the information from you.

But it gets worse!

DISPATCHER: Where did he come in at?

VICTIM: I have no idea. I have no idea. I have no idea. The back door.

DISPATCHER: Well, they’re not going to be able to find him on the information that you’ve given.

VICTIM: Don’t you understand how horrified I am? I’m a 20 year old from Upper Arlington. I don’t know what you deal with every day but the kind of sympathy you have is zero.

The perpetrator was later arrested and charged with rape and burglary.

Columbus police say the call “could have been handled better” and are reviewing the call at local media’s request, which consists of the dispatcher’s supervisor calling her into his office and having a fucking Kum Bah Yah about how to maybe not be such a flaming shitheel to rape victims in the future. But the dispatcher won’t get a written warning that will go into her personnel file, according to ABCNews, because the victim “got help.”

To be perfectly frank, it’s incredible to me that the this 911 operator is keeping her job, period, let alone not even having a written warning issued. She seems more suited for another line of work, one that requires very little contact with the public or human-levels of empathy.
