Woman Gives Birth in the Middle of NYC Street

A woman in labor was trying to hail a cab to the hospital on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Monday when her baby could no longer wait—she got down on the ground and gave birth right there in the crosswalk on the corner of 68th and 3rd. Fox 5 News cameras happened to catch all the action while on their way to another story.

The woman’s doorman and several passersby helped her out with the quick delivery. “She was like, ‘Oh, my God, the baby’s coming’,” one witness said. “And then I could see the baby’s head coming out.”

Several women walking by offered their scarves to the newborn—a baby girl!—as it was freezing cold in NYC. Fox 5 News cameras, driving to another story, managed to film some of the commotion before the ambulance arrived to take the woman—who can be seen smiling in the footage—her husband and their baby to the hospital. It was the couple’s third child, and they are all doing fine.
