Woman Dies After Receiving Illegal Butt Injections in Basement

A 34-year-old Maryland woman named Kelly Mayhew passed away after getting silicone injected into her butt by an uncertified plastic surgeon. A freelancer for BET, Mayhew traveled with her mother, Latrice, to Queens, New York to have the injections done. The illegal procedure took place in the suspect’s basement.

After the silicone was injected, Mayhew began to gurgle and had trouble breathing. Latrice started performing CPR on her daughter and asked the fake doctor to call 911, reports ABC News. Instead, the woman immediately fled the scene in a gray SUV, leaving Latrice to call for help herself. Authorities are still waiting for a final autopsy to determine exactly what was in the injections and the cause of death. Police are now on the hunt for the suspect.

If someone wants to get butt implants, or any type of cosmetic surgery for that matter, it’s not worth risking your life by going the black market route just to save some dough. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, buttock augmentation surgery was up 15% from 2013 to 2014, while butt implants were up 98%. Unsurprisingly, Dr Scot Glasberg, president of the ASPS, told ABC that illegal procedures, including silicone injections, have increased.

While there’s no doubt this growing trend is partly due to societal pressures of us non-famous norms having to live up to the mystical asses of Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and the Kardashian fam, the reality is that it’s here and probably not going away anytime soon. Cosmetic surgery should just always be done safely and responsibly. Say no to underground butt shots. Stay away from creepy basements. Educate yourself on the risks. Ask questions and always do your research.
