The Tonys are motoring right along, with Hamilton so far scooping acting awards for Renée Elise Goldsberry and Daveed Diggs and a soundtrack honor for Lin-Manuel Miranda, among others. One of the most competitive categories, however, is that of Best Leading Actress in a Musical, where Hamilton’s Phillipa Soo is up against Cynthia Erivo, aka Celie in the revival of The Color Purple. As you’ll see in this excerpt, that’s some tough competition—Erivo, along with leads Danielle Brooks (Sofia) and Heather Headley (Shug Avery) are utterly phenomenal. This is the definition of the house down, and earned a standing ovation for obvious reasons. Is there a Ham4Ham for this musical? Cause I’m trying to go.

Update: Cynthia Erivo swept that shit. Well-deserved!
