Of the 57 men in the 67 clips, the lion’s share of them have been nominated for Academy Awards. In fact, just last month, even comedic actor Adam Sandler was invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, due to his dramatic (and tearful) turns in Punch-Drunk Love and Funny People.

Still, the prevalent notion in our society is that crying is for girls. But that’s probably why male crying scenes are often utilized in films—the rarity of overtly emotional men produces powerful results, either making the audience cry with them, or laugh at them.
