In one scene, her character sings Neil Young's "Heart of Gold," the favorite song of sensitive young people who sometimes have trouble with emotional directness. The track is basically a tear-down, a dis track, and Nicki comes out swinging against her unnamed opponent (perhaps Lil' Kim?) This parody ad for "Fotoshop" cosmetics comes to us from filmmaker Jesse Rosten. Rosten says, "I was watching TV one sleepless night and stumbled upon an infomercial for some beauty product. The commercial showed before and after portraits, that to my eye, looked like the same photo just photoshopped. I laughed to myself. Then I made this video." The commercial isn't real, he points out, "and neither are society's standards of beauty." Once I had a cat that liked to lick people's armpits. Late at night, one would awake to find she'd burrowed under the sheets, her tiny, furry head pressing into one's armpit, followed inevitably by a scratchy, darting tongue. I would lie there, wracked with ticklishness, but unable to bring myself to swat the poor beast away, because what she was doing was actually kind of sweet, if you think about it. Kandula the elephant is being called a "giant genius." And he does seem pretty clever! He lives in an enclosure at the Smithsonian National Zoo, where jerky researchers put bamboo and fruit just out of his reach. Kandula was smart enough to push a cube over and use it as a step.
