Vice has just published the first episode of its new online series Fashion Week Internationale, which follows host Charlet Duboc as she travels around the world to go to non-Big Four fashion weeks. Duboc reports on plastic surgery in Colombia and New York City's own Full-Figured Fashion Week. These events are to the fashion industry kind of as outsider artists are to the mainstream art world. For the first installment, Vice heads to Islamabad Fashion Week, where Duboc mingles with models, attends a clandestine dance party, and meets Tariq Amin, a hairstylist and makeup artist who is known as "the man who brought style to Pakistan." The story is narrated by her editor: "I swear I'm not making this up, but when Elektra asked: 'Do you mind if I get a picture with you?' Naomi turned to her and said, 'I'm sorry, but I'm not speaking.' Which was weird, because she had to speak in order to say that." Vice has an interview with Renata Molho, who was a stylist and writer in Milan in the 1980s, a wild time known as Milano da bere or "drinking Milan." Ms. Molho describes an era in which the fashion industry was full of creative people and fresh ideas. Magazine editors didn't cave to the pressure of advertisers; they wrote about the designers, the styles, the fashions that they actually found exciting. "Just think about the power that press offices have today," Ms. Molho says. "They probably dictate 80 percent of what is written. It wasn't so in the '80s.
