Something weird happened on the season finale of America's Next Top Model: All-Stars last night — and for once, we're not talking about something Tyra Banks, the always-smizing host of the show did or said. Instead, it was the random disqualification of Angelea Preston, the tall, somewhat-beloved underdog who scratched her way to the top. It was strange that she was suddenly suspended from the show's competition. Even stranger was the way the situation was addressed on the show: Barely at all. Last night's challenge on America's Next Top Model involved each of the contestants writing lyrics to a song and then going to a professional recording studio to lay the track down. As you can imagine, it went something like the challenge earlier in the season that had the girls testing out their acting chops on the set of CSI. That is to say, not so well!

World renowned model Coco Rocha stopped by America's Next Top Model last night not only to judge, but to participate in a photo shoot with all of the contestants. Bless her heart. The theme of the day was a violent cat fight, and the challenge generally paired two girls who didn't like each other together to work with Coco. Surprisingly, the girls who didn't get along very well, like Bianca and Shannon, churned out a series great photos while others ...didn't do as well. There was Angelea, who walked off the set in tears after overhearing what the photographer and Jay Manuel were saying about her, and Bre, who decided it was a good idea to scream her lungs out during the whole shoot, which was not only bizarre, but frightened Coco enough that she "didn't even know how to pose anymore." Tyra Banks says it took five years to write her New York Times best-selling sci-fi Young Adult novel, Modelland. Characters like Tookie de la Creme don't name themselves, ladies! (Seriously though: her poor, ignored ghost-writer.) Ty-Ty got the idea while in the back of a car, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and promptly lost the piece of paper until she cleaned out her purse. Once she got serious, it sounds like she really got into the research. "I love Roald Dahl. On my nightstand right now is James and the Giant Peach, which I'm reading for the second time. I just finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I read three Twilights." Now we're picturing Tyra Banks in bed with her banker boyfriend, furiously reading all the YA she missed out on as a kid. The theme of last night's photo shoot on America's Next Top Model: All-Stars was "Michael Jackson Through The Years," or something, but it didn't really matter because La Toya Jackson was there for guidance. Though the episode felt suspiciously-timed — with the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray happening right now — it was a serious affair, and all the ladies were extremely focused. And yes, not only were the contestants cross-dressing in ornate, bedazzled outfits, trying to emulate the King Of Pop while his sister watched, some of them were given brown makeup to make their skin darker. But hey, it's not like Tyra Banks' team hasn't been accused of doing blackface makeup before. But anyway: La Toya was super nice! And, unfortunately, a little on the creepy side… She kept speaking about her dead brother in the present tense. More »

On last night's America's Next Top Model: All-Stars, a very special challenge was presented to the ladies: to audition for a role on CSI, using over-complicated medical jargon that the models will inevitably mispronounce, all for the smug enjoyment of viewers at home. Given how the prize at hand (obtaining the role and actually filming it for TV) was supremely coveted, enough for each of the ladies brought their A-game. But as is to be expected, even the best of their performances were terrible enough inspire serious secondhand embarrassment, whether you've ever watched a crime show or not. More »

The first chapter of Tyra Banks' much-anticipated writing debut has hit the net, and, well, it's pretty much exactly as-advertised. Banks had hyped the Young Adult series as a mix of the life of a model and the Harry Potter series, and from what we can garner from the sample selection at Barnes & Noble, her description sounds about right.
