While you're busy trying to decide if this falls more into the "Revamped Sex & The City" or "What I Thought MTV's Awkward Was Going To Be" category, let me give you a few more details. The show stars Lena Dunham (of Tiny Furniture fame) as our dry, lovable protagonist and Jemima Kirke and Allison Williams (daughter of Brian Williams, FYI) as her two besties. From this short preview, we're not entirely sure that Apatow will have redeemed himself on the matter of his track record with female characters, or whether Dunham actually will turn into the "voice of a generation." On last night's episode of All-American Muslim, we spent some time with Samira, who is struggling to conceive a child. She visited her imam — the leader of her mosque — to talk about IVF, but he had bad news, saying that if she used her husband's sperm, it would be okay, but using some other man's sperm to get pregnant was forbidden by God. (Samira and her husband both have fertility issues.) Samira decided that in order to be blessed with a child, she needed to try and please God — by wearing a hijab, which she hasn't worn since 9/11. She stopped wearing a headscarf after 9/11, she says, because "there are still people who view Muslims and view Islam as something that's scary." Several months ago, Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill announced to her Twitter followers that she wanted to lose 50 pounds. Yesterday, she took to the 'net again, informing her followers that she'd met her goal. While I'm happy for her for doing what she set out to do, it's depressing that the standard by which women measure our fitness is still the number on a scale. Teen bride Courtney Stodden shocked America when she sauntered into the news after marrying former Lost actor Doug Hutchison, and it's been impossible for us to tear our eyes away from her since. Hutchison, at 51, is 35 years her senior, but their age difference is the least of what's compelling about this pair. There are the interview histrionics: Courtney spends every interview alternately licking her lips and staring at Doug's mouth, laughing at inappropriate moments, and generally acting totally tweaked out while Doug, in Sincerity Mode, insists that their love is real. There's Courtney's "80's-porn-star-trying-to-make-a-comeback-in-the-90's" sartorial choices, the reality show rumors. But the most compelling and important product of this holy union is, by far, Courtney's completely bonkers Twitter account, which reads like a sexual mad lib written by a troubled fifth grader combined with a spambot combined with a Craigslist ad for erotic massage as composed by someone working from an outdated ESL dictionary. She mostly writes about being naked and licking things or touching herself, and it always seems implied that she's on the brink of orgasm, unless she's tweeting a scripture verse that demands the reader let the Lord direct all your paths.
