Usually when Glee does one of its contrived plots about Sue trying to take down New Directions for no apparent reason, we at least get a few memorable performances or witty lines. "Night of Neglect" wasn't the worst episode this season, but it was unusually bland. It felt like the writers were concentrating on next week's 90-minute "Born This Way" episode and realized at the last minute that they needed to cobble together a few scenes explaining why Terri Schuester cares about destroying her ex-husband's glee club (though that's still unclear) and why Gwyneth Paltrow won't be in the next few episodes. Last night, each queen was asked, "Why do you deserve to be crowned America's Next Drag Superstar?" Yara Sofia bluntly answered, "Because I'm broke." Manila Luzon was more eloquent, speaking about her loving and supportive family, and the desire to spread that encouragement. Raja became tearful as she sobbed, "I would love to leave a legacy for all the little boys who are teased, who are afraid, who don't know how to express themselves creatively yet… It's okay to say 'fuck you.'" Guys, I love Alexis Mateo, I think she has a really pure heart. And Manila is hilarious and campy — my favorite kind of drag queen. But I think RuPaul decided, long ago, that Raja should win. After all, Ru's big hit was called "Supermodel." She loves a fierce runway bitch. Raja has said some things I found mean-spirited, but she has been fairly consistent, resourceful, innovative and unique each week. The Carrie prombucket kind of sealed the deal. Last night TLC aired new series Extreme Couponing, which is just what it sounds like: Ladies going to extremes to save on their grocery shopping. J'amie — seen in the clip above — is a self-proclaimed Coupon Diva, which means she shops wearing lipstick, eyeshadow and heels. It's a bizarre experience to watch her buy sixty-two bottles of yellow mustard: Sure, it doesn't spoil, but why would you buy that much mustard? When are you going to have a chance to use that much mustard? Where the hell are you storing all that mustard? I was both impressed and vaguely nauseated by her exploits, especially when her husband noted, "I don't even eat mustard." Still, it is a tough economy, and J'aime is an inspiration of sorts. It's not easy to spend hours and hours clipping coupons, organizing files and checking on deals, and J'aime's checkout process at the register took two hours. It paid off, of course: Of her $1,902.63 grocery bill, J'aime paid a mere $103.72 in cash. Still, 62 bottles of mustard? You've definitely crossed over into "eccentric" territory. Jon Caramanica of The New York Times calls the show "a revenge fantasy and a heist flick all in one," but at times it felt like a pseudo-porn-y niche fetish film. The money shot is the receipt! J'aime even did a little dance of ecstasy after she paid a mere 5% of the retail value of her purchases. More »

There were "Jocks in Frocks" on last night's episode of RuPaul's Drag Race: Straight, athletic guys donned makeup, heels, dresses and wigs, in an attempt to channel the glamour, elegance and beauty of a drag queen. Last night's episode saw the queens singing — not something most of them felt comfortable doing! It was the same song, over and over — RuPaul's "Superstar," but each contestant had a different version. Manila Luzon grooved to a disco cover; Alexis Mateo rapped her hip-hop track; Shangela's ditty was country; Yara Sofia warbled as a half-naked pop star and Carmen Carrera played a drugged and depressed reggae artist. The winner of the challenge? Raja, of course. Even though she didn't really evoke a drag queen, her punk performance impressed guest judges Jody Watley and Carmen Electra. It seems inevitable that Raja will be crowned winner of the show, but I think I might be team Manila now. She never fails to bring it. In a sort of conflation of reality television concepts, last night's episode of Intervention may have provided a peek into what the future could hold for some of those career kiddie pageant contestants we see on Toddlers & Tiaras. Tiffany began competing in pageants when she was 9 months old, and continued to do so regularly throughout her childhood winning over 300 trophies and crowns. She admits being addicted to that "top-of-the-world" feeling she received when she won a pageant, and the memory of it makes her feel even worse now that she's on "the bottom" as a drug addict. Mike Tyson's new show on Animal Planet, Taking On Tyson, revolves around the former boxer's introduction to the sport of racing homing pigeons. Viewers get a glimpse of a fascinating world, in which birds are treated like athletes — carefully trained, fed only the best birdseed and vitamins, prized for their performance. There's definitely something different about people who like birds. Bird people can't (usually?) cuddle or snuggle with their pet at night like dog people and cat people. There's no moving-together-as-one-powerful-being experience, like horse people have. Birds — whether they be sparrows or eagles — are delicate.
