Kevin had lived as an open gay man for a few years and had been in a long-term relationship, but decided that the pain associated with not being close to his deeply religious family wasn't worth the "gay lifestyle." Now he's operating under the mantra of, "What we want isn't always the best thing for us." Over the weekend, MTV aired True Life: I Have Acne a documentary featuring young adults with severe cystic acne, and the steps they are taking to treat it. Take Lily. She's a 21-year-old aspiring model/actress, but her skin has been holding her back from moving forward with her career. She's been grappling with the decision of whether or not to take Accutane following the death of her 15-year-old brother, who took the drug and then suddenly died. (Doctors insist that the Accutane didn't have anything to do with his death, but Lily is still too fearful to try.) Lily decides to undergo very expensive, painful laser treatments that had devastating short-term effects, and eventually, no long-term effects. A couple thousand dollars later, she's still dealing with her affliction and still refusing to try Accutane. More »

A recent episode of MTV's documentary series True Life focused on two young women who are such compulsive shoppers that their credit, their relationships, and their lives are at risk. One of the girls featured doesn't pay her bills and instead shops every day, buying lots of cheap crap she doesn't need, just so she can walk out of the store with something. As seen in the clip above, her boyfriend doesn't exactly help matters: not only does he not question her when she gets up in the middle of dinner to go buy something, he actually gives her cash in order to do it. By the end of this episode, Rent-a-Center has repossessed her furniture and she has begun seeing a therapist. More »

For the second installment of MTV's True Life: I Have Embarrassing Parents, we were introduced to Nikki, an adorable 14-year-old emo girl who is dealing with having a mom who is, in turn, dealing with having some kind of midlife crisis in which she wants to eternally look 18. (To her, "looking 18" translates into looking like Pamela Anderson in her worst costume for the day, replete with giant fuzzy hat.) Nikki's mom doesn't understand why her daughter is so embarrassed by her, because she's just being herself and showing off the body that "God gave [her]". Um, well, if by "God" she means her plastic surgeon. At Nikki's father's birthday party, her mom dances so suggestively with her classmates that Nikki breaks down in tears. Clip above. More »

Kelly Cutrone is the owner of fashion PR company People's Revolution, where Whitney from The Hills is now working. This weekend, MTV ran a documentary about Fashion Week following Kelly and her assistant Stefanie as they prepared for the fall shows, and we got a glimpse at how super awesome she is. First of all, our hats are off to anyone who successfully works in fashion, yet cares more about the work than the fashion. Kelly's style is akin to the "blogger's look": No bra, no makeup, baggy shirts, tired face, and hair so dirty it looks wet. She seems like a tough boss, but appreciative just the same. Clip above. This weekend, MTV aired a documentary about "Southern belles" that kind of freaked out this Northeastern Jezebel. It's shocking that, in 2008, educated women feel like old maids at 24 years old, yet refuse to ask men out on dates. Such is the case with Leigh Ann, who says her greatest fear in life is becoming a crazy old cat lady (despite the fact that she already seems to be one). It's also shocking that an 18-year-old girl like Raini could use so much hairspray and wear so much makeup and fuddy duddy outfits that she looks closer to 50 than 20. Clip above. More »

A new episode of MTV's True Life aired last night called "I Work in the Sex Industry." While "sex industry" is defined kinda loosely (one of the girls they follow hosts a college radio sex show), the storyline following Aaron, a 23-year-old straight guy who works in gay porn, was pretty interesting. He says he really, truly is straight but that he can't turn the money down, since gay sex scenes offer about five times the cash as straight ones, and he simply relies on Viagra to get him up. The thing is, his family seems to have a hard time believing that he can do that job and be straight, and even his gay male costars tease him about how he just doesn't know he's gay yet. Clip above.
