The movie LOL is supposed to signal to the world that Miley Cyrus is no longer a child, but apparently she's doing it in the most Disney way possible. Getting a D in math, drinking an unidentified substance from a Solo cup, and having sex with your boyfriend makes for a fairly tame teenage rebellion — particularly when in real life there's a six paragraph section in Wikipedia devoted to Miley's various sex and drug-related scandals. If you're wondering why every nerd you know is bleary-eyed and unfocused today, it's probably they were up late analyzing the new trailer for the first installment of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In the clip, we learn that Martin Freeman looks great as Bilbo, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett are back, and the cinematography is just as stunning as it was in all three Lord of the Rings films. The trailer for Dark Knight Rises recently hit theaters (and websites) and one of the biggest complaints? Bane — played by Tom Hardy — is really hard to understand. Apparently Bane, the villain of the flick, gets his super-strength from a drug that he continuously inhales. (Glue?) In this trailer, you see Tom Hardy with a mask that covers his nose and mouth; his words get slightly muffled. Usually, when a movie is based on a best-selling book, that book is not an instruction manual. But Hollywood is full of wacky ideas, and the new flick What To Expect When You're Expecting is one of them. Like Love, Actually, Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, the story follows a large, ensemble cast, but this time, they're portraying different types of couples about to be parents. "I just wanted the glow," Wendy (played by Elizabeth Banks) says as the trailer begins. "The one that they promise you on the cover of those magazines." Wait, what? Which mags are these? Thank you for the early Christmas present, Good Morning America! The full Hunger Games trailer has aired this morning, and whether you're a fan of the books or just figuring out what all the fuss is about, the clip delivers: It sets up the story of a futuristic dystopian world in which kids are sent to battle to the death. The good news? Director Gary Ross made some excellent choices, it seems. Bleak, washed-out cinematography gives a post-apocalyptic feel to the reaping ceremony. The lush, soft green forest of Katniss's District is in stark contrast to the hard, sharp corners of The Capitol. Leonard Kravitz is a doting and supportive Cinna. The trailer pulls viewers in without giving too much away, and even though the casting of Jennifer Lawrence was not without controversy — in the books, Katniss is described as having straight black hair and olive skin — her acting is on point. The bad news: If there is anything amiss, it is whatever has been glued to Woody Harrelson's head. More »

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's new flick might be called 21 Jump Street, but it bears little resemblance to the police drama that aired on Fox from 1987 to 1991. Yes, they are young-looking cops sent to work undercover at a high school. But instead of tackling serious issues with levity, this flick focuses on juvenile jokes, foul language and poop punchlines. Which is fine! Just don't call it 21 Jump Street. Call it Infantile Investigations, Crude Cops, Puerile Pig Patrol or Dude Bro Detectives. More »

This summer, audiences suffered through the abomination that was The Smurfs. Many of us who actually grew up with the Smurfs avoided it. But there's more trauma-inducing memory-ruining to come! When Dr. Seuss's classic book The Lorax was published in 1971, with its titular character who "speaks for the trees," it was considered a fable about preserving the environment from the logging industry. Bleak stuff! The fanciful morality tale was turned into a brightly-colored (yet fairly somber) animated movie in 1972, and now it's been made again, with the voices of Zac Efron and Taylor Swift. This newfangled Lorax flick seems to have an uplifting, joyful spirit (Polyphonic Spree!) and a lot more characters than the book had. Seriously, where did all those random white people come from? (If it's a fanciful story set in a fanciful place why is everyone white?) Also? The writers have added a heteronormative angle: The kid is searching for trees not because he's curious about the world he lives in but because he has a crush on a girl. If you haven't started wincing yet, check out the last scene of the trailer, in which The Lorax has a confrontation with a rotund lady. A guy says, "You wouldn't hit a woman!" And The Lorax says, "That's a woman?" Would Theodor Geisel approve of that kind of joke? More »

Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow are husband and wife; she comes down with something terrible and he attempts to figure out what happened. The all-star cast includes Her Holiness Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Elliott Gould, Veronica Mars's dad and so on. The multiple plots and layers are reminiscent of Soderbergh's Traffic, but way more skin-crawling and paranoia-inducing. The film hits theaters in September, off to get a facemask, BRB. More »
