Shakespeare With a Twist is happening everywhere right now; in New York on Broadway, Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad star in an interracial version of Romeo and Juliet. And in Philadelphia, the Curio Theater is producing the same play — with two women in the title roles.
For years straight people have been taking for granted the notion of watching a relationship on stage that’s easily accessible to them… But gays and lesbians have had to take a leap. We want heterosexuals to see it through their lens.
Two different artists — painter Elizabeth Gallagher and photographer Kyle Cassidy — created posters for the show, as seen above. Cassidy says of his photo:
My goal was to make something that somebody could hang on their dorm room wall and say, wow, Shakespeare can be really cool. It can be something I want to see.
