The Duck Dynasty Guy Got a Free Speech Award for Hating Gays

Latest

Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, who believes “sexually immoral” gay people, much like “male prostitutes,” will not be able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, won an award today for free speech. Robertson accepted an Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award today at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C.

The day has been full of absolute barn-burners—Rick Perry, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum—but Robertson really swept the field rhetoric-wise, pulling a heavily duct-taped Bible out of his bag and addressing the politicians in the room: “For you potential candidates, to keep you out of trouble, and to keep the scandals down, let me give you a little word of advice. You carry two things with ya wherever you go, in case one of you gets to be the president of the United States: Make sure you carry your Bible with ya and your woman.”

In a nearly 30-minute address—longer than any of the potential presidential candidates have spoken over the past few days—Robertson also called sexually transmitted diseases “the revenge of the hippies,” after he advised that straight married people can’t get STDs: “You’re disease-free and she’s disease-free. You’re married. You keep your sex right there. You won’t get sick from a sexually transmitted disease. You come home. One man, one woman, you keep your sex right there.”

Noted. You can watch the full speech here.
