The Bachelor Thinks Gays Are 'More Pervert', Shouldn't Be on Show

Latest

The Bachelor, Juan Pablo Galavis, has stated that he would be against a gay man being the star of the show because it would be difficult for the children to understand. Because that is who is watching the bachelor. Toddlers. Listen, Juan Pablo, if there is a three-year-old watching you hand out roses and go on awkward group dates, I think that we have a much bigger problem than homosexuality on TV.

Here’s what Galavais told The TV Page:

Obviously people have their husband and wife and kids and that is how we are brought up. Now there is fathers having kids and all that, and it is hard for me to understand that too in the sense of a household having peoples… Two parents sleeping in the same bed and the kid going into bed… It is confusing in a sense. But I respect them because they want to have kids. They want to be parents. So it is a scale… Where do you put it on the scale? Where is the thin line to cross or not? You have to respect everybody’s desires and way of living. But it would be too hard for TV.

And also:

Juan Pablo’s awkward — and somewhat unexpected — comments continued as he then accused gay people of being “more pervert in a sense.”

What? What does all of that even mean, dude? I understand that Galavis may be uncomfortable with the idea of gay men chilling in The Bachelor house (and let’s be real, it is Galavis being uncomfortable, not the millions of children who will not understand why two mommies or two daddies are in the same bed), but suggesting that homosexuals shouldn’t be on the show because it would be too difficult and disrespectful is ridiculous and, frankly, bigoted. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt on the “disrespectful” comment, it still sounds like what he’s saying is that he wants to respect everyone but also doesn’t want that kind of stuff on TV. I’m giving it a :/

Moreover, making people uncomfortable is not always a bad thing! That’s how change occurs! And, to be fair, weren’t a lot of people uncomfortable with the idea of the bachelor being a show in the first place? And look where you are now! It seems like the only thing “too difficult” here is trying to wrap one’s head around Galavis’ reasoning.

Oh, and ABC has already responded. Surprisingly, they are not supporting Galavis’ statements:

Juan Pablo’s comments were careless, thoughtless and insensitive, and in no way reflect the views of the network, the show’s producers or studio.
