That Time the Golden Girls Cast Performed Live for Queen Elizabeth

Latest

It turns out that Queen Elizabeth II was a huge Golden Girls fan, and back in 1988 the cast gave a command performance for her live on a London stage. Betty White recently discussed the experience during a Reddit AMA.

The seven-minute performance—which featured all four Girls—had to be censored in order for it to be suitable for the queen, but White still managed to slip in her signature bawdy humor. During a Reddit AMA yesterday she said:

It was very exciting. The Queen was lovely. We were told not to address her unless we were addressed. She was up in a box and she came down on stage after with Princess Anne. She said lovely, pretty girls. I said and not bad body, and she said, “oh, no, not bad bodies!”
(in a very British accent, she said.)
