Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte have listed their favorite episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, whom they call "one of the most powerful female characters ever developed." Included are Season 2's "Passion," and "Becoming" (the one where she kills Angel), Season 3's "Consequences" and "Prom," Season 4's silent episode "Hush," Season 6's sing-along "Once More, With Feeling," and Season 7's "Conversations With Dead People." The Mulleavy sisters write that, "Before she was 'chosen' to be a slayer, Buffy Summers was a typical teenage girl with average ambitions. She seemed like the ditzy blonde that is usually murdered alone in the alleyway." NBC executives were shocked to learn that last weekend's Sunday Night Football match up between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants was the third most popular primetime show among women ages 18-49. Plenty of comedies are based on the idea that there's inherent humor in men dressing up as women, from Some Like It Hot to Bosom Buddies. If you need proof that the entire concept is dated, look no further than the trailer for Work It, a new sitcom premiering on ABC in January. Now that TLC has presented its fascinating/funny/exploitative portrait of virgins, it's moving on to one of the most commonly mocked segments of our society: Geeks. As a nerd who wishes her fiancé could make such an impressive wookiee noise, I'm certainly not the target audience for this trailer, but I suspect we're supposed to be laughing at the idea of people who love cosplay and Star Wars hoping to find mates. The busybodies at the Parents Television Council, which most recently objected to Glee showing kids it's okay for 17 and 18-year-olds to have safe sex with their long-term boyfriends, has released yet another breakdown of how TV is warping kids' minds. This week's episode of Finn Knows Best opens with Principal Figgins threatening to suspend Santana for two weeks for slapping Finn in the face. However, she winds up getting off because Finn claims that she actually only pretended to hit him. Mr. Schue asks what Finn's "angle" is, and you might assume that he feels guilty because he knows that Santana only hit him for outing her. But, you'd be wrong. He tells her he feels bad for her and doesn't like to see her hiding who she is. And since he gets to decide when Santana shares her sexual preference with the world, he tells her she has a choice: She can either take a two week suspension or participate in a joint Troubletones/New Directions lesson he concocted called "Lady Music Week." As any soap fan knows, it's often hard to tell when a character is really dead. As a longtime All My Children fan, I've seen characters who were shot and later appeared as angels miraculously show up a decade later to stir up trouble in their lover's new relationship (often while pretending to be deceased, these beloved characters also develop an entirely new look and personality and get 10 to 15 years younger). I don't know if fans will believe this, but All My Children and One Life To Live truly are canceled, and there's no chance they'll show up on your TV screen once again, begging you to give them a second chance. Today All My Children will go off the air after 41 years. I haven't watched the show regularly in years, and when I tuned in this month I found one of my favorite characters is now played by a new actress, another suddenly realized she's a lesbian, and at least four characters I saw die are alive again.
