Teachers Have Threesome With Student, Get Arrested When Student Brags

Here’s the first rule of having sex with your teenage students: Don’t have sex with your teenage students. Here’s the second rule of having sex with your teenage students: Maybe don’t be a monster who has sex with kids? How soon before that gets into the faculty handbook?

Shelley Dufresne (32) and Rachel Respess (24) of Kenner, Louisiana were arrested this week after allegations that they had a threesome with a male student surfaced. The threesome, which was allegedly recorded in both stunning photos and moving images, happened two weeks ago and was only discovered when the teenager who took part bragged to his friends about what happened. How the police became involved isn’t clear, but I am hoping that at least one of his friends was all “yeah, dude, that’s just not cool, you know? Sex ed isn’t supposed to be a hands-on experience at the residence of an adult you trust.” (I also imagine that this was explained to the student while the speaker was seated backwards on a chair.)

Really, this is all sorts of fucked up. Every time one of these stories comes out (and there was just one yesterday!) it makes me lose a little faith. I’ve worked in a high school, and I can’t imagine how any adult could look at a 16-year-old and be all “yup, that’s my steez right there.” 16-year-olds are hormonal messes. They’re just learning geometry for god’s sakes. And considering that Respess has taught the student in the past while Dufresne is his current instructor makes it hard not to think that this boy was groomed.

I get the fantasy of having sexual relations with an authority figure (for me it was my math teacher, Mr. White, in eighth grade), but that’s what it should remain: a fantasy. I also understand that this teen might think it’s actually pretty cool that he had sex with two of his teachers (in the moment), but it was up to Respess and Dufresne to be the adults in the situation and realize that engaging in sexual activity with a minor is rape. Even if he likes it. Even if you tell him not to tell anyone. It’s both disgusting and an abuse of trust and power.

Both women are facing felony charges of “carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.” Police Chief Michael Glaser stated that everyone should be upset about this situation. “No matter what sex the victim is, everyone should be outraged…You have educators whose responsibility is the safety of children.”
