A two-year study conducted by the Environmental Working Group has found that some bottled water has the same level of contaminants as tap water. Two brands that were found to have high levels of chlorine byproducts were Sam's Choice, a brand sold by Wal-Mart and Acadia, a brand sold by Giant Food. Tests conducted found that each of the brands had a concentration of 35 ppb of chlorine. (California requires 10 ppb or less and the International Bottled Water Association makes 10 ppb its guideline.) All of the brands tested met federal health standards for drinking water, but the study still challenges the perception that bottled water is purer than tap water.
