I read the Louis Vuitton tree thingy as "money trees," which made me wonder about the origin and availability of said trees.

Italian cashmere producer Brunello Cucinelli runs a factory with long lunch breaks, no timeclocks, and posted "rules" are quotes from philosophers and writers. He thinks he can afford to be both a great boss and a good businessman, and his company's revenues for this year are forecast to reach 154 million Euros, which is some 7% greater than last year, even with the recession

Where can I apply? Seriously. #lindsaylohanforungaro

I totally get the German VOGUE shoot. Bruce Weber was born in Pennsylvania, and they have a large German population there. Christie Brinkley, um...looks German? and lives in the Hamptons...and Jorge Garcia might actually have been lost. The End! (Get it...Montauk = "The end?")

    It's very conceptual. #lindsaylohanforungaro

The macaroons from Payard were AMAZING! I used to work around the corner, and I would go in and get coffees (el boss would pay). The waiters got to recognize me and would give me handfuls of delicious FREE macaroons!

Too bad Payard was shut down. Apparently they had a terrible mouse infestation. #lindsaylohanforungaro

@Mary McCarthyite: Oh, no no. I'm a fan of both and also of Jenna's writing. (I think she should submit her own book for consideration to that Princeton prof she wrote about yesterday, hint hint.)

And, although when she writes about the mixtures such as above, they turn out gleefully bizarre, I'm just wondering if some things just shouldn't be crossed.

(Maybe I should have compared it to the circus in Something Wicked This Way Comes. I loved that novel, but I wouldn't want that particular traveling band to show up in my town -- and I'm a New Yorker; we see (and sometimes are) the weirdest of the weird -- you know?) #lindsaylohanforungaro

Two blurbs about Macy's does it. I hate that place. I hate the layout, design , and the merchandise.
Macy's has been around Minnesota for a while now and I don't know a single person who enjoys shopping there.
I know I will never get over losing Dayton's/Marshall Fields, but there is something really off about Macy's. #lindsaylohanforungaro

I think a large part of Ann Taylor's problem, is that there is no clear vision of who the Ann Taylor woman is, and what kind of image the company wants to project. As a woman in my early twenties, I find their clothing too old-looking, and somewhat dowdy, but for my mother, who is 50, they are too young and trying too hard to be trendy. They are always just a little off the mark and I constantly find myself saying, "Oh, this dress would be cute, if only...". #lindsaylohanforungaro

@Tchotchke: It seems like AT's window is very small, like women 35-40. You're right, their clothing is really kind of frumpy and I never buy much more than the occasional pair of pants (b/c pants are pants are pants, for me). My mom used to love AT but now, at 60+, she can't wear a thing there except an occasional cardigan. It's disappointing, b/c growing up I thought the store was the height of sophistication, with really luxe fabrics and well-cut pieces. Of course, I was 12 at the time, and knew nothing of fashion. #lindsaylohanforungaro

@willwriteforfood: For me, I have always associated the store with my teachers in grammar and high school. The clothing was conservative, a little dowdy, but still young enough for a 35 year old to wear without looking frumpy. Sometimes, however, stores go through these periods as an inevitable part of their lifecycle.

For example, recently J. Crew seems to have really hit its stride. The clothing is stylish, well-made and has a clear vision of who they want to represent. I shop there and so does my mother and we can do so without looking like one another or age-inappropriate. When I was younger, however, J. Crew was almost a punchline because of how absurdly preppy/conservative it was. I remember lots of pastel-colored, boxy, sexless cardigans that flattered no one. Similarly, the Gap captured a mid-late '90s aesthetic pretty well, but then lost its touch in recent years.

I think that unlike smaller or higher-end labels, retailors face the very difficult task of straddling the area between being fashionable, and still having a broad appeal. Some do it more successfully than others. However, I am sure that one of the other Jezzies who works in fashion, like Penny, could better explain why this happens to some retailors. I just find it fascinating. #lindsaylohanforungaro
