I went to town last night, and the most exciting thing that happened to me was I had an allergic reaction to kiwifruit. I was home at midnight, having a hot milo. Hello, I'm Cesybabe, I'm 21, and I'm a nana.
My computer is going insane, I think. I have a Task Manager window open that doesn't close. And ctrl+alt+delete wont help because the task manager is already open. I can't even minimize it, or put it behind another window, I just have to drag it down to the bottom of the screen. I have a blank Internet Explorer window just like it that's been there for a week now. Help? Or, if you want, share your own my-stupid-computer scrred.
@Everything MidnightBikeRide does is a balloon.: Someone on here somewhere has to have the answer. I'm sorry I can't help. And I'm extra sorry to find out Bea Arthur died. All the Golden Girls were supposed to live forever.
@Rock You Like An Iracane: Hey, I read your thread yesterday while I was catching up on the OT. I'm really sorry about your situation and I've been on both sides of the story there. Neither one is fun, obviously. But I remember assuming it'd just never get better and it did. I'm sure everyone says that: "Oh, it will get better". I just wanted to say that it will, I promise. Take as much or as little time as you need but know people here are willing to listen if you want.
@Rock You Like An Iracane: As counter-intuitive as it might sound, that stats test might be the best thing for you: I've found that the more you ruminate over the situation in your mind, the worse it feels. In the past, the only thing that's saved me from driving myself crazy over bad breakups has been throwing myself into schoolwork. The last one I had was literally my first week of graduate school, and not having the option of shutting myself off from society turned out to be a big advantage (not that I didn't do more than my share of moping and text messaging, mind you).
@Rock You Like An Iracane: But you WILL feel better. I hurt someone really badly after a lot of love and commitment. I can safely say that now, all these years later, he sees it as a good thing we parted. Back then it was like I'd ripped out his heart. It was hell for me as well. But it all led to such great things later on.
That feels worth nothing right now, I know. It's just we've all been there and can relate. My heart goes out to you and I hope the pain begins to lessen soon.
It's also not something I want to do right now. Moping, as unproductive and as stupidly useless as it sounds, also seems to me to be one of the best things to do.
@Rock You Like An Iracane: The only way I ever got through stuff was to wallow in it until I felt like moving forward. I wasn't so good at the faking part. Sorry to interrupt.
@Rock You Like An Iracane: Get up and go to the gym. It'll get you some endorphins, and make you more productive in your studying later. Plus, its hard to be sad when you're sweating like mad.
This is my breakup advice to everyone, and the thing that helps me most when it happens.
@Liz11685: Morning! I was up at about 8ish, my time and brimming with energy, which is pretty unusual for a Saturday. Getting ready to run out and do errands. How are you?
@Liz11685: I'm here, though I wish I was still in bed. It's noon where I am and I've been cleaning and laundering since 9:30. Disgusting! It's 80 degrees and beautiful out, so as quickly as I can be done with this I will be outside.
Oh never mind I just figured it out. I'm stupid. I had to take off all the panes, the big storm windows, etc from the inside. They came right off. Blargh, I should probably try all my options before asking stupid questions, haha. I got the screen out.
@tscheese: It sounds as though you have 'triple tracks'. You're supposed to be able to leave the storms and screens in at the same time with those. You just push the storm up, pull the screen down and you're done!
They can be finicky when they get old though. Some of the windows in my house have them and I hate them with a passion. Crappy storms, broken tabs, etc. Had to get the screens out for repair because the dog broke two of them and it was no fun at all.
Damnit, I am baffled by how to get this screen off my window without damaging the screen frame. It is the type that has two little metal tabs on the sides. Removing it from the outside is not an option, as the window is about 30 feet up.
I can slide the tabs in, no problem, and get the screen rattling around loosely in its track. At its loosest and highest, it'll tilt out slightly. But not enough for me to move it any further! I've tried jostling it left, right, up, down, back, forth, in, out, and it's hemmed in by all sides. I am at my wits' end. I've looked at a dozen different websites that all say I should just be able to finagle it until I can bring it inwards. No dice.
@tscheese: I'll offer best wishes with that, but unfortunately any advice of mine would likely get you maimed or killed. Handy around the house, I am not. Good luck!
@AJ with the AbbyNormal Brain: @theysaidwhat: Thank you both. Honestly, i figured it out within five minutes of posting and now I feel really stupid. There's a huge heavy interior window that is really finicky to get out of its tracks, and I had to fight with it for a while. Once I had that free, I could pop the screen out unencumbered.
@tscheese: Naw, no need to feel stupid at all. Those triple tracks are just plain evil!
Growing up on the frozen tundra, did you have the old-school screens and storms that were hung from the outside and really did their jobs? I miss those.
@theysaidwhat: We had some REALLY thick, giant storm windows, and yeah, they worked pretty hard. Our house was renovated in the late 80's, though, so I'm actually not sure if the windows are super-duper old school or not - but they stood up to 110F temps in summer, and hail and giant thunderstorms, and -20F temps and blizzards and ice storms winter while keeping us nice and cozy.
I miss my parents' house sometimes. It's just so comfortable!
Good morning, Jezzies! I know, some of you are probably just going to sleep, but I'm feeling refreshed after 8 hours of sleeping like a dead woman and am now disgustingly chipper. :-)
