<![CDATA[The Ting Tings Sing "Happy Birthday" On Yo, Gabba Gabba!]]> Indie band the Ting Tings were on the latest episode of the kids show Yo, Gabba Gabba! The episode was all about Brobee's birthday — Brobee is one of the monster characters — and the Ting Tings covered "Happy Birthday" by the band Altered Images. For those of you who weren't around in the '80s, you may remember hearing the original version of this song from that old movie Sixteen Candles. The song translated perfectly for the show, and it's always fun to watch kids spazz out when dancing. Clip above.

<![CDATA[Smoosh Sing On Yo Gabba Gabba!]]> Last year, teenage sisters indie pop group Smoosh appeared on the children's television show Yo Gabba Gabba! and it reran this morning. Here's a clip of the girls singing their song "Pajama Fun Time." Around the time when their album She Electric was released (2004) was when mainstream audiences first began hearing of the folk group Prussian Blue, made up of sisters around the same age. Prussian Blue, however, didn't sing songs about pajamas and fun, but about white power. Smoosh is obviously the far superior band, both musically and ideologically.

<![CDATA[Yo Gabba Gabba! Teaches The Kids About Indie Comics And Early-'90s Freestyle]]> The Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba! has a regular animated segment called "Super Robot Martian Girl," designed by husband-and-wife indie cartoonists Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer (creator of the seminal all-girl comics anthology Action Girl Comics). In the episode seen above, Super Robot Martian girl saves the day by turning a boring party into a dance party by playing a cover of Nice & Wild's freestyle classic "Diamond Girl."

<![CDATA[The Postmarks Sing About Balloons On Yo, Gabba Gabba!]]> It may be intended for children, but Nick Jr.'s Yo Gabba Gabba! is suuuuuch a good show. It's supposed to be educational for kids, but it's also pretty good resource for teaching adults about bands, old and new alike. (One of the cartoon segments featured a song by the band the Free Design, which was around in the late '60s/early '70s and was a major influence on Beck and Stereolab.) In the clips above, the Postmarks sing a cute song about balloons, and little kids dance around and act all adorable.

<![CDATA[Cornelius Rocks Out On Yo Gabba Gabba]]>
Experimental musician Cornelius — who's sorta like the Japanese Beck — was on the Nickelodeon's show Yo Gabba Gabba this morning to perform a song about counting. We seriously starting to love Yo Gabba Gabba, if only because it's really fun to watch kids dance around like maniacs to music that's actually really good. (We also really like the cartoons and fuzzy animals and bright colors.)
