One of the comments said not, but I want to discuss this more, because I want people who know about him to expand on exactly what kind of a stupid douche he is.     @MissNormaDesmond: What can I say about BHL? He's so dreamy that Angelo Rinaldi (a French writer and critic) nicknamed him the most beautiful cleavage of all Paris. Historian Pierre Vidal-Naquet (a classicist, but also author of a history of the Jewish people, a WW2 resistant, and opponent to colonisation and the Algerian war when that kind of public position could land you in serious trouble with the French government -- you know, the ideal type of the intellectuel engagé and honorable man) considered him an impostor. Raymond Aron thought he was a lightweight and intellectually dishonest.

    BHL spent years trying to engage Pierre Bourdieu on TV. Bourdieu, who had no time for that clown, refused and explained that it would be too much of an honor for BHL. The moron, peeved, attacked Bourdieu for being afraid of him (and problably antisemitic, to boot, because that's BHL's favourite invective -- and a very effective silencing tactic.)

    But he's very rich and extremely well-connected, is friends with (or has influence on) most TV people, newspaper owners and several publishers, which means that he always has a tribune to speak despite what people think of him.

    If you read French, there's an excellent (and well-documented) book on what kind of person he is and how he gets away with being such an intellectual bully: "BHL - Une Imposture Française" (a French Imposture) by Olivier Toscer and Nicolas Beau. It was published three years ago and sold well, despite a certain media blackout due to BHL's connections. #emmathompsonromanpolanski

    Yann Moix? No, no one takes him seriously, but he's not even controversial. His books and films are just regularly panned (the word "mediocre" is recurrent), with the exception of one, er, reviewer, i.e. his mentor BHL, but it's not even like there's anything to debate about, you know? BHL at least has his network of friends and backscratchers and is quite influential, so he's worth taking on.

    Yann Moix is just one of the minions. He was "discovered" by BHL, he writes essays for BHL's revue, he writes reviews praising BHL's latest book or documentary of whatever, he sometimes writes songs for BHL's wife,....just you average toady. He's inconsequential. #emmathompsonromanpolanski
