Why Do Celebrities On The Web Arouse Such Rage?
Do You "Feel" Your Age? Does Anyone?

Whew, I feel better.

And yes, we are totally mean assholes while we do it, but if we accumulate all the eye-rolling, sighing over stupid moves, and WTF-ing that large social circles cause we'd be psychotic by now.

I almost exploded this week because a friend was posting each and every mile time from each and every run she took this week (that's five runs of at least five miles-SO MANY UPDATES). And here's the thing- I run a hell of a lot faster than she does, but I don't kid myself into thinking that anyone else gives a flying fuck. So yes, planned snarking would let me vent just this kind of steam. Thanks for giving me some Friday night plans!

But you see, then I write this and I feel like a totally jaded bitch - which is why I don't write or say shit like that. Venting over beer with my partner in crime is the only way to not explode.

I'm thinking if Kate Winslet or even somebody like Jennifer Aniston were to write similar blogs/newsletters...well, I still probably wouldn't subscribe but I wouldn't be shitting all over it quite as much, either. But then again, those ladies would probably never be so presumptuous as to assume 'the fans' want or need their advice.

Take that, AdAge! Aha! I win this round. (But I still love you. Call me, OK?)

What I can't stand is celeb blogs that are self-important. HuffPo is the worst for this. I don't care what Alec Baldwin thinks about the Iraq War, I'd rather hear from a policy wonk, a grunt in the field, or a former general. Being famous does not mean that your opinion is suddenly important or well informed.
I don't mind celeb blogging if its reasonably interesting. I'm not Facebook friends with Lindsay Lohan, but I can see the appeal of reading her crazy status updates. Mindy Kaling's fashion blog is cute, even though I don't like most of the clothes. Gwenyth is just ridiculous. She doesn't have to pretend that she makes 25k/yr but she should understand that some people do make 25k/yr and feed their kids tinned soup. If she was less obnoxiously self-involved, people would make fun of her less.

It looks like Jezebel also had its highest number of visitors and page visits in February.
One can learn a lot by looking at a publication's advertising rate sheet.

2. Sleb says, "OMG THAY HAVE BLAGS NOW! LET ME WRITE TO IT, DEAR BLAG, LOOK AT MY HAIR."
3. Internet discovers it.
4. Internet finds it mildly ridiculous.
5. Sleb: "Oh my god, you guys are so mean, you don't GET me."
6. Someone else discovers that the "Internet" is making "fun" of a "celebrity," and gets all meta about it.
7. The internet discusses that someone getting meta about the Internet talking about the blog of a celebrity on THEIR blog.
8. Tscheese sells all her things and moves to Antarctica.

And the first few on the list totally describe several people I know that are not 'slebs'.

9. tscheese starts a blog about life in Antarctica.

Many of us here are bloggers, which no one asked us to be. We just had thoughts, ideas, recipes, and photos and we decided to put the out there in the hope of sharing them with people for nothing but a little narcissistic pleasure in the occasional feedback. I see no reason to shame female celebrities for doing the same. Like the editors here say, don't click on it if you don't want it. If I don't want it, it wasn't for me anyway.
