I've been working for Josh Tyler for about as long as I've been reading Jezebel, and I just want to say that he's a really nice guy and a pleasure to work with. CB was just doing a point/counterpoint about female superheroes. Katey Rich handled the other side. I don't think it makes him a woman hater.

@Kona: I suggest you show him this thread, so he can see how wrong his assumptions are. And just to add to the chorus, the film I'm most looking forward to this year is Watchmen. I love comics. I hate chick flicks. (And I'm a happily married 40-year-old woman, not rebellious teenager, just in case he's tempted to think that - which I expect he is, given his stereotypical view of women.)

@elvy: I do the same thing, except it usually ends with me realizing I'm the bumbling sidekick who lucked her way out, to my best friend's more awesome superheroine type. Only because I'm a klutz, and I'm more the tech support geeky type (without having any no-how). I need to stop sitting in the library for hours. These nonsensical ramblings happen, and I can't apologize for them.

I grew up w/ Epic, Heavy Metal, Eerie Magazine, comics, Isis, Wonder Woman, Electrawoman and Dynagirl on TV, the Bionic Woman, old-school roller-derby... I'm a dude that arguably grew up in the "Golden Age" of TV superheroines... And I loved watching them!

As far as the movies go... Bloodrayne - eh. Aeon Flux... Hmmm. Underworld - WHOA! Tomb Raider! Ultraviolet! Resident Evil! Hellboy! X-Men!

This guy's an idiot... There have been plenty examples of good and successful films with female superheroes recently.

I think that a lot of women never really get into superheroes because of this kind of dude and his attitude. Unlike me, for whom it all started with She-ra Warrior Princess and ended with wanting to BE Rogue. For years.

It makes me sad that Wonder Woman (a personal fave of mine as well) is considered the one girls really like. I once mentioned the invisible plane and the lasso of truth to a girl dressed up on Halloween as Wonder Woman- she gave me a really blank stare before wandering off. That girl wasn't into Wonder Woman at all- just the idea of the costume. Nerd girls (and proud!) like me would LOVE to see more women superheroes.

I just posted a comment in much the same vein as the one I left in this thread, in the comments section on Cinema Blend. I wasn't profane, or personal and I've just logged in again to the site to find that not only has my comment been wiped from the thread, my IP address has been banned from Cinema Blend.

I just sent our friend Josh an email asking for an explanation. Btw he's also the editor-in-chief of the site so it could be a long wait.

Has anyone else ever had any experience with Cinema Blend in the comment censoring department?

If you want to see more female superheroes, there's nothing stopping you from pitching them to Marvel, or DC, or one of the indies. Or starting a webcomic, which is probably the best choice right now, given the economy. In my experience, the comic industry encourages fresh talent and new ideas . . . but then again, I have no direct experience with the big two.

I like love stories and I am not ashamed. And you know what, so do most dudes.

Batman has a love interest. So does Spiderman. So does the Hulk. So do most action heroes. So does every Happy Gilmore film. They aren't just there for the ladies, the fellas who wrote the script dream about getting the girl. Guys who roll their eyes at romcoms need to take a long look and their own viewing habits.

Sometimes I do think there is too much of a Jezzie push against stereotypically feminine things. Over the weekend someone posted that they were embarrassed to like Sex in the City. I have no interest in seeing it, but it isn't anything to be ashamed of liking. Nor is Barbie.
