Liz Claiborne's revenues shrank 10% last year, as same-store sales at Claiborne-owned Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand, Kate Spade, and Mexx all dropped by over 12%. <![CDATA[Fashion Mags: Big Girls Gain, Tween Titles Flounder]]> Thanks in part to the mostly useless advertorial Conde Nast supplement Fashion Rocks, Vogue regains its spot as head bitch in charge of all lady mags: Anna Wintour's brainchild had the most pages this year, with 3,222, barely edging out #2, In Style, which had 3,197 pages, says Women's Wear Daily.. The other fashion mags also gained this year. Glamourhad the most ad pages in its nearly 70-year history with 2,089 and despite budget cuts and a slew of staff departures at Elle, Roberta Myers' mag gained 6.2% in ad pages since 2006.

The only losers this year were teen titles, which almost universally lost ad revenue. The number of pages in Cosmogirl declined by 6.8%, while an Alpha Kitty-less Seventeen lost over 4%. Teen Vogue barely gained, posting a 0.9% increase from last year. Come on, Lauren and Heidi of The Hills, one of you clearly needs to get a D.U.I to give Teen Vogue a boost. Take one for the team!

<![CDATA[Lindsay Lohan On Cover Of September 'Elle': Way More Than 'Adequite']]> The folks over at Women's Wear Daily are worried about Elle. The paper's media-gossip column 'Memo Pad' is concerned about what Lindsay Lohan's latest DUI arrest means for the Hachette fashion magazine, which is featuring the actress on the cover of its advertiser-heavy, September fashion extravaganza for the 2nd year in a row (last year's cover, above left).

Elle readers seeking pages of fashion and style advice might be turned off by another Lohan arrest and pending court date, which will take place just days after the magazine hits newsstands... sources said Elle's interview and photo shoot took place prior to Lohan's stint in rehab, so it's likely the story doesn't include any discussion of her most recent run-in with the law.
Uh, doesn't that make the upcoming issue even more tantalizing? Also, does no one remember Lohan's appearance on the cover of InStyle's November 2006 issue, which came out just as she was doing AA for the first time and telling director Robert Altman's widow to "be adequite" and all that shit? As far as we've heard, InStyle's issue sold pretty well.

<![CDATA[Mary J. Blige Continues Milking Her Marriage For Attention, Gives Herself Family-Friendly New Look]]> Did you hear? Mary J. Blige's marriage to record producer Kendu Isaacs saved her from a legacy of rage, resentment, and self-destruction. Of course, that's the softer, gentler, feature-friendly image that onetime wild-child Mary J. has been pushing (and pushing!) in interviews and acceptance speeches over the past few years. But lest you still think of Mary J. as more hardcore hip-hop singer than hardcore housewife, just take a look at the new issue of domestic-goddess mag Redbook. (Mary J. Blige? In Redbook? Yeah, weird.) Apparently, Mary J. "requested" that the magazine's editors airbrush her tattoos for her cover image on the May issue. Gone from her famously-toned bod: "a cross on her left arm and her name in English script letters on the other," reports WWD.

'We think [Blige] is just gorgeous  tattoos or no tattoos," said Redbook editor in chief Stacy Morrison. 'We were just disappointed that her management requested that we airbrush them from her photos because they are so much a part of who she is. But the ink doesn't make the woman."

No, but caving into the demands of a woman who doesn't even represent your target demo does make you sort of a pussy!

Sarah Jessica Did NOT Exploit Her "Sex And The City" Character For New Fragrance!]]> Yesterday, we bitched about the news of Sarah Jessica Parker's new, sassy-sounding scent Covet, accusing the actress of cashing in on her years as Sex And The City's stylish, lovable goofball Carrie Bradshaw in the fragrance's new ad campaign.

But we were wrong! Or so says Sarah Jessica, who says she finds all the SATC-derived offers that come her way just so, so distasteful:

"There have been so many opportunities to trade on Carrie Bradshaw, and I decline those so much because they really feel vulgar to me," she said. "The difference between this and taking advantage of an audience that way is that we're not ending with this romance; we're not telling a story. We're not throwing a man in there. We're making this about your own, individual sort of unleashed act."

Get that? Think of Sarah Jessica's latest performance as a stylish, adorable klutz not as Carrie Bradshaw, fashion-obsessive but as Carrie Bradshaw: Deranged but well-dressed spinster!
