True story: Ally Hilfiger once took a pic of me at a party so she could use my outfit as "inspiration" for her line. All I could do was think of how my sister and I used to make fun of her on Rich Girls. And at how embarrassed I was to still recognize her after all those years. :(
I might be more enthusiastic about seeing this if it were coming to the Cinerama in Seattle, or even the IMAX. Instead it's going to a local multiplex with small screens. Not impressed by that prospect
@euterpe35: Well, Pacific Place isn't that bad of a theater. Now, if it were going to the Meridian, then yeah, I'd probably call foul.
I wonder if part of the problem is that the intro by Obsorne is going to be telecast live. If that's the case, then neither the Cinearama or the Boeing IMAX Theater is equipped for such a broadcast.
@ides: I have never seen it all the way through. I feel obligated to like it, but I just can't get into it. But maybe I'll take a trip to the movies next month and check it out, since I haven't tried watching it in years.
@MalinaMango: I am pretty sure I mostly like it out of nostalgia. I watched it a zillion times as a kid, it fueled many childhood fantasy make believe games, and so when I see it now I'm sort of transported to a crappy 80s apartment that could be transformed into Oz simply through daydreaming.
@ides: My mther hates it with a passion, to the point that we tease her by threatening to make her watch it. Apparently she was forced to watch it over and over again as a kid, because some people in her neighborhood got a color tv and everyone thought seeing the wizard of oz in color was the best thing ever.
I read yesterday about a woman who paid thousands to have a lens implanted into her eye to change its colour and almost lost her sight in the process. By comparison, the high definition eye dye sounds more appealing.
@labyrinthine IS DOING THIS: The lenses were blue and she is a young dark skinned and brown eyed woman. She said she hopped on the plane as soon as she heard of the operation in Panama DESPITE being warned by opticians in the UK that it was a highly risky operation. As she is also a single mum of three and a full-time student, you would think she would not have taken the risk for her kids' sake. [www.dailymail.co.uk]
@Rare Affinity: I like that she didn't think it was a big deal since she had already had breast implants abroad in Bulgaria. Yikes, this woman is seriously endangering the welfare of her children, and spending tons of money on these highly unnecessary procedures.
And she is pursuing a degree in Social Work. /sigh
@Rare Affinity: When I was elementary school, I was obsessed with blue eyes. I hated my poop-brown eyes. As I grew up, I swapped my iris loathing for thigh loathing. At least there's a small chance in hell that I can one day have nice legs. Aqua-blue eyes? Not so much.
@Rare Affinity: eesh. If there were a way to donate this woman a copy of the book The Bluest Eye without coming off as bitchy and condescending, I would totally do so.
I just would have been pissed finding out I could have used the shoes the entire time, and I ended up going through all that crap, including the flying monkeys, which are truly scary.
Ah, articles from the ABA Journal which frequently made me splutter and spit tacks were one of the big reasons I declined to renew my membership. That, and the Hertz logo on the membership card. The bar should be set just a teensy bit higher, imho.
Really, I get the author's point, but this analogy seems strained at best.

Somehow I think that might reveal a bit more than they intend.
