Seriously,with this pic, the manipulation/inappropriate nature is obvious due to horrible photoshopping skills, but with the other paparazzi like shot following a man on a private vacation the viewer can remain passive and "uninvolved." Plus, he got abs!

I hate them both.

I think this will save the economy - no matter if you follow Nancy Reagan's advice or not (I still have my DARE shirt) , everyone can agree this would be a huge market, tax the crap out of it, the US will be in the black by 2013 - or should I say 'The green'

There are several good arguments in favor of legalizing marijuana, one of them being that if selling it was not a crime, the gubment could attach regular sales taxes to it and generate revenue. Another is that terminally ill people could easily access it for pain/depression relief. It's also been known to help alleviate PTSD. I looked into it once, back when I was a huge pothead, and if I remember correctly, there has never been a case of acute maryjane overdose that resulted in a death. Nor do I know of any cases in which someone was jonesing so badly for pot that they stuck up their grandma. This is just my opinion, obviously, but it seems like a huge waste of time, money, effort, and prison space to go after pot in the same way they go after coke and heroin and meth and whatnot.

I'm surprised that so many people pooh-pooh the issue of marijuana legalization. So many people get sent to prison for that shit and have their lives destroyed or seriously set back, and poor people and people of color are much more likely to receive harsh sentences. I don't think that decriminalizing marijuana would necessarily divert resources from more important causes, and I think that putting a halt to imprisoning people who are doing nothing wrong is pretty damn important, actually.

In the next 50 years I hope to see: decriminalization of marijuana, the rise of alternative energy, massive improvements in public transportation, universal health care that is affordable, the return of the pension, and a constitutional amendment allowing gay marriage so states can stop fucking around. I think it's possible that at least two of them could happen.

I would be so freakin' happy if I could buy weed legally. The only reason I don't smoke now is because I'm too much of a goody-two-shoes to risk it (because I learned long ago that I will get busted anytime I do anything vaguely illicit).

Yeah, that picture is disturbing.

But honestly, I've had this conversation with my boyfriend who is staunchly agaist illegal drug use and even he thinks weed should be legal so we can tax it and create jobs from it. If you go to the NORML I think it is website there are state by state laws (which vary GREATLY) and also statistics about how many Americans actually use it. There is such a great demand why shouldn't the government take advantage of it?

@stacyinbean: I've always heard rumors that it has something to do with the paper industry (?) and possibly others, something about hemp being a better all-around substitute for several other materials. But these rumors came from the mouths of my stoner friends, so who knows...
