I dated someone who had been a scientologist and although he said that people in the upper echelons were downright crazy, he wistfully spoke about wishing he could afford to take more of their seminars which can be quite costly. It literally takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to get to the top levels. He gave me several books but I never read them. From what I gathered, one of the major principles is to selfishly look out for yourself to the point of simply demanding that people give you what you want. He tried that on me, demanding that I give him money, but it just gave me the giggles.

Or maybe it was a long day and they just didn't feel like hauling him in, so just cut their work short and blew his fucking brains out. Where did the general public and media get the idea that Scientologists don't use medicine nor see doctors? its utterly false and yet it seems to be a recurring theme, especially as of late.

I don't get it.

The only thing I can figure is that the information that is posted on Scientology sites and provided to prospective Scientologists may be vastly different than what happens once you are "in the club".

Anyone here ever been part of the Scientology Church?

@funnyface: I knew that (and actually partially subscribe for my own reasons - some persons do NEED psych meds others merely depend on them unecessarily)

But lately the public and media both claim (hence Barbara Wah-Wah's question to Tom) that Scientology does NOT believe in doctors and medicine in general.

I can't find that information on Scientology sites hence my question.

@Scout: It may be a little far reaching :), but I believe these people have Scientology mixed up with the Church of Christ Scientist. They believe in the healing power of prayer and that medicine is going against God's plan.

@Scout: I've read the Scientology handbook and it does frown on medicine as a whole, preferring to take an errrrrr unorthodox approach. But it does agree that when it's a life or death kind of thing then it's best to just go along with it. But quietly, they believe that even under anesthetic/in a coma you can hear everything being said to you.

@Scout: If you're going to research it you should know it's the Church of Christian Science, purveyors of the famous Christian Science Monitors.

Also, good luck getting an ex-scientologist to comment here. A lot of them are afraid of the "church." It's like leaving a cult.

The worst line in the song is 'My first time/hard to explain/rush of blood and a little bit of pain/' but then moves on to other things. That's the whole slutty content. The way censorship works is dumb.

@FourInchHeels: That's so weird they censored that. They never censored "I'm going to bed and my stomach is sick/It's all in my head but she's touching his...chest." Yet all references to blowjobs and guns are verboten. And "skeet skeet" and "monkey" once the radio stations finally figured out what they meant.

On the opposite bent, Nelly's lyric "If you wanna come and get high with me, smoke an L in the back of the Benz" is finally safe for public consumption. I heard it in all its glory the other day. It was truly a historic moment.

It's a rather long and embarrassing story, but I ended up having a chat with her a few years back and she was equally mystified about the fact that of all the trampy crap on the radio all the time, that was too inappropriate. I can't remember what happened, meaning if it was taken off the radio, or just changed/lost a few lines.

@Kivrin: In The Killers song, you expect the line to end "she's touching his dick," so even though it's not technically censor-able, there's a pretty obvious implication. I guess the question (which relates really well to "If You Seek Amy") is whether you can censor something that isn't technically explicit if it has obvious connotations to something sexual/etc.
