    Even though Will and Merle were only on for a sec, I liked this episode. I got all misty at the end, for sure. My dad died when I was Lisa's same age and he was brilliant so I like to think that we would have shared crosswording if he were still alive today.


    Sorry to be a Debbie Downer...but I really needed to share that with someone.

    I did the puzzle ahead of time, just like my supreme ruler Will Shortz wanted me to. Finished it in an hour, matter of fact. But I missed the secret messages and the episode was bad. Thanks for showing the important part so the whole ep doesn't have to keep stinking up my saved shows on the DVR.

    The episode had its moments (Best Simpsons line of this season: "I never knew that bookies at bars could be so judgemental!"), but the crossword puzzle subject was rather dry and geeky for an entire show, and the lemonade stand scene was pure filler.


    Now back to drinking bourbon and watching the Simpsons DVDs seasons 4-8.

    @Shannon: Yeah, but you are talking more classic Simpsons episodes from years past. I LOVE the Simpsons and I hate that I don't love it as much as the DVDs I have of the first few seasons.....

    I can't solve crossword puzzles. In my lifetime, I have cracked 3 crpytexes and can solve a rubix cube with relative ease but I've never finished a crossword that wasn't:

    @TheFormerJuneBronson: There are two puzzles - the one in the NYT Magazine is the one that Homer had Merl Reagle create that Lisa sees the message in. The other one was in other papers (like the Philly Inquirer and Hartford Courant) and was Simpsons-themed.


    I did both and liked the latter better. The episode...not so much.

    My boyfriend and I just about peed ourselves when we found out Will Shortz (AKA The Puzzle Master) would be on The Simpsons.


    This episode was boring, though.

    @Archetype: i had a HUGE nerdgasm when I heard will shortz was gonna be on the simpsons. he's the best thing to come out of Indiana Univ.
