On the topic of the ten year-old with the 'to kill' list - today I learned that my five year-old niece "Carly" came home sobbing that she didn't ever want to go back to school. It seems a boy in her class, "Dave", told her that he was going to take his father's gun to school and kill her and put her three year-old sister 'under water'. Horrified, her mother called the teacher of Carly, only to have the incident dismissed by the teacher, who said Carly must have been lying. Then Carly's mom called some other parents of kids in the class and quite a few kids also had "Dave" threaten to shoot them and kill them. Mind you, this is in Colorado, where most families in that town DO own guns, and the possibility of this happening isn't so far-fetched. Finally, Carly's father had to call the director of the school, who at first didn't want to do anything, saying that there would have to be a lot of complaints against Dave for him to suspend or expel him, and that Carly must be exaggerating. Finally the director said he'd have Dave's parents come in for a 'talk', which I'm sure is going to help a lot. This is a kid in Kindergarten, and nobody wants to put their foot down to even tell the kid that you don't threaten other people! I have half a mind to drive there myself and pull "Dave" aside for a persuasive chat and get all Judge Judy on him. Grr.

Ugh, rules against hearsay are there for a reason. Yeah, it may help convict one murderer, but it may also help convict some innocent people.

(AP) Police are looking for an irate pet lover so intent on liberating his lost cat that he wielded a bat to fend off animal shelter employees.

Dallas Animal Shelter manager Kent Robertson says the man found his missing gray and blue short-haired cat at the shelter, where it had been brought by someone who thought it was a stray.

He blew his stack when told he had to pay a $132 fee to take his cat.

The worst part of that story is that the mob and others who believe in that caste separation think of this as "justified". One constant in this world is that humans will always find some bullshit to feel superior about and hate somebody else because we think they're less.

Please don't kick this ginger. I've been kicked enough today.

This afternoon I fractured a finger while bringing in my field xylophone from storage during a snowstorm. Maintenance wouldn't do it... so I had to. I then had a staff meeting where we were informed that we had to remove all "personal appliances" from our work areas which means the band office coffee maker has to go. I'm bringing in a thermal carafe for my personal needs and anyone who tries to mooch (are you reading this, my principal?) will seriously lose a hand. Seriously.

On the bright side it was my third finger and not the 'bird' finger. Which is fortunate because I consider the 'bird' finger a vital organ. Especially since my coffee intake is going to be seriously reduced....

@treecut just Baracked the Vote!: God, I wish. That would have been easy! In our case the field xylo is the crappy one that has a (slightly) sturdier frame and won't fall apart going from storage to the sideline and back. It has to be taken apart, folded up and slid into the back of my Jimmy to be transported back to the school otherwise the wheels will fall off and it will hit the ground. The frame collapsed when I was putting it in the hatch and caught my hand between the legs and upper frame.

I want a Hummer xylophone frame but they cost $700.00.

When I first started boarding school, I had my hit list too, only it was more like 25 people. I'm sure when I was a senior, I was featured on a lot of 7th graders lists too.
