Has Micheal Crichton written a book about this yet?

Has it hit the daytime soaps yet?

I see a lot of potential drama here... Fascinating development though. Hopefully it doesn't mean that we'll have an army of "Octomoms" who put their own weird psychopathology first, the needs of living beings second.

This makes me happy cause I am nearing 30, have taken human repo classes, and have been frightened that I will not procreate before my "healthy zone" has ended.

It never ceases to amaze me that despite all of our technology and advances, how little we truly understand about our own bodies. I hope they keep up the research.

I wonder how viable these eggs are, or if these eggs could be related to heightened occurrences of the stuff they warn you is more likely to happen if you have a baby after a certain age

wait, wait: stress makes you less curvy and therefore less fertile? there seem to be some causation/correlation problems happening here.

also: having been in law school for the past 3 years seems to have done nothing about the size of my ass, so...

@MinneFilly: Yes, I think the women they're talking about are the high-powered Type-A career ladies who are terrified that they'll be deemed less than "professional" if they have that third leaf of lettuce at lunch. An aggressively restricted diet will definitely mess with your fertility.

Wow. It's really busy down there, isn't it? I'll stop griping about my period now so you can get back to work/egg making/whatever.

I once heard that even though women are born with a certain number of eggs those eggs are not fully developed until later in life. And this is one reason that so many birth defects are more common in younger mothers. Is this crap or is it true?

And re: Previous studies have found that women with an hourglass figure, with a WHR of 0.7 are the most fertile.

I just heard my mother go, "Duh. I've been telling you that you're very fertile all your life. It's science."

@mervbaby: The "later in life" is puberty. After that, your eggs are fully developed and ready to go. Also, chromosomal birth defects are much more common among older mothers; younger mothers are more prone to environmental birth defects (smoking, drinking, not eating enough folic acid, etc.). The genetic variety can hit at any age.

@Glitterbug (likes life shaken, not stirred): you just can't expect that sort of humor from a neurologist.

do you think he cracks those sort of jokes during a pap smear? "two ovaries walk into a bar..."

As long as mine continue to stay unfertilized, they can come via an alien probe 50 years into the future for all I care.
