I wasn't sure where to post this, so sorry for the threadjack. I just had a disturbing voting experience. I showed up with my ID and my voter registration card, and my name was NOT in the book! They had to call the election office, which told them that I was indeed eligible, and write my name into the book. I'm so disheartened. I said 'Shenanigans!' rather loudly (the old people were not amused).
To top it off, I locked my keys in my car at the polling place, and I was surrounded by Republicans shooting their mouths off while I waited in line.
@Ascendo_tuum: Oh no! Something similar happened to me during a primary, at least they were able to write you in and you got to cast your vote! And Shenanigans is RIGHT! Sorry about the car keys that is the worst, but hopefully it will be all worth it tomorrow!!!
The conservatives are eating my brain. Two women at work are voting for McCain, one because she thinks Michelle doesn't like white people, and the other because she thinks Obama is one of the signs of the "end of days." And my sister's boyfriend (family nickname: 'Douchebag') is voting McCain because he doesn't want Obama to take his guns.
While their reasons differ in the details, they all boil down to ignorance. And it really makes me sad.
@ArtBitch: If Obama is a sign of the rapture she shouldn't have to worry because she's True Christian TM enough to be raptured anyway right? Why the nervousness?
"Republican Senator Orrin Hatch, having lived the last 8 years with his head firmly up his ass, thinks that the U.S. will "lose a lot of stature throughout the world" if we elect Obama."
@ceejeemcbeegee: @ronaldpagan: Does anyone know whether this shit is working at all? Are there people who really buy this? I liked that Rachel Maddow pointed out the fliers being handed out in VA misspelled "electoral," but if you're dumb enough or disengaged enough to buy that you should vote on Wednesday I suspect that the misspelling would not register with you.
Off topic but AAAAAH! I live in Arlington and just saw a Rev. Wright- Obama attack ad by "The Republican Trust Fund" or something. I've seen some bad ones in the past couple weeks (scenes of terrorist attacks and ominous marching foreign armies) but everytime I see one it just makes me so angry.
Oh good- an Obama ad came on just in time. Now I am calm and vaguely hopeful.
The CEO of our company announced in company meeting on Friday that he "didn't want to spread the wealth." He "wants to keep his money." What the fuck? You already make 10 times what I make. Pardon me if I think you should fuck off? The liberal folks in our company booed his ass.
@MonkeySeeMonkeyDo simply must insist that you vote Obama: It's absolutely insane that anyone, anyone actually thinks he advocated socialism by that (spread the wealth) statement. To think so is so willfully ignorant, so willfully stupid... I don't know what to say.
@onebluepussy: If that is the case you'd think the fact that she has to hide it from her supporters instead of her opponents supporters might have made her stop and think.
@BrutallyHonestBabes: Karl Rove. "It's brilliant strategy, really. Instead of an October Surprise, Obama offs his grandma for the sympathy votes. THAT'S why he kept talking about her all the time, so we'd all feel that much worse!"
@BrutallyHonestBabes: It's been ugly on political boards. Even the far right-wing sites are having to edit comments. I'll spare you what they are saying.
@ronaldpagan: So gross. And the Malkin commenters are just as bad
Why is her death news? She stayed out of the media in life. Why now is she in the media?
Fox News has had her as their headline the WHOLE day! Like she is even slightly newsworthy. Thanks Fox, give Obama as much of the sympathy vote as possible…
Lets just all be glad this time tomorrow we will have results rolling in...
I have no problem with the candidates keeping their medical records private. I can see the relevance, but if we demand candidates' medical records, no woman who has ever had an abortion will be elected to the highest office. That is not a result I can live with.
@the_famous_grouse: Yeah, Mr. Crabby and I were just talking about this. I forget the drunken beginning to the conversation, but he was like, "well, you'll never be president cause you had an abortion. I'm not saying it's right, but it's the world we live in right now. It's a political deal-breaker." And he's right.
@tonightineed: I just defriended someone on facebook for the first time ever, when i saw this girl's profile was an assortment of ignorant status updates and links to ann coulter articles. In her defense though, she was inanely stupid through all of highschool, she can't really help it.
@vamusical: Facebook is imploding! I just saw that one of my good friends' status is now "Can't wait to be punished for not being poor." I didn't even know she was an R. Suddenly sending out her birthday card is less of a priority for me, and I know I suck, but there it is.
@clairedeloony: Yeah, my best friend's new beau said, and I quote, "I'm voting for McCain because I plan on being wealthy and I don't want my Ferrari money going to help feed some poor kid."
@vamusical: I've been having political debates with conservative friends for the last few days because they are being STUPID. I'm not talking about their political opinions, whatever, but just general STUPIDITY. LIKE HI, GEORGE WASHINGTON WAS A DEIST, NOT A CONSERVATIVE EVANGELICAL WHO WANTED US ALL TO BE FORCED TO PRAY TO DEAR LORD BABY JEBUS. And yes, they think everyone should be forced - forced being their word - to obey the bible if they're living here.
@tonightineed: What the FUCK? Wasn't this country founded on freedom of religion? I know I've said it before, but holy christmas already. JESUS TAUGHT TOLERANCE AND ACCEPTANCE- YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME YOU IGNORANT FOOLS!
@Crabby Cakes: Yes, we've been trying to explain this LOGIC to them. and then they pull out BARACK HUSSIEN OBAMA WANTS TO TEACH BABEHZ HOW TO GIVE BLOWJOBS OMG.
@whats_in_a_name: they think the founding fathers proved their loyalty to Christianity by burning others at the stake and, uh, apparently, using a guillotine.
@tonightineed: I think i might work with some of your friends. Over the of the last week or so I've been informed that the US is a Christian country, the only gov't experience Barack has is signing welfare checks, and that I'm going to burn in hell for all eternity for being an atheist.
@tonightineed: I know! People! George Washington: BIG TIME MASON. Not exactly big friends of Christian denominations. They believe in a Supreme Being, but are not necessarily Christians.
@tonightineed: I have to ask, have they actually READ the Bible?? Like, are they wearing mixed fibers? 'Cause I'm picking up a handful of rocks, right now. Do they eat surf & turf? Same treatment. Don't touch me, I'm menstruating. Let's kill a goat and burn its flesh!
@tonightineed: Wait, are you serious? They think our founding fathers are french puritans? haaaaaaaaaa.
Also, Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the declaration of independence, was not christian. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, ignorant morons of the world.
Okay yes, the only reason I care about her medical records is because of her gynecological history and yes its terrible because its all deeply rooted in voyeurism and schadenfreude and love for a conspiracy. Is that so terrible?
@Jessi Ramsey: Let me put it to you this way: would you want the editors over at the National Review going through Hillary Clinton's medical records, tittering about something like early onset menopause or, God forbid, the appearance of HPV that she might or might not contracted from her husband, or infertility treatments or anything of the like? I wouldn't either. So I don't think it should happen.

So I'll just hope that Triggate comes in a way my rotten little heart can relish more. Like if she slips and says "My four kids." or something.
And if candidates get to redact information, what is the point of releasing these records at all?
