I don't understand the whiskering in the jeans. Those of us with wider hips don't want to draw attention to that area, but even the dark wash jeans are all whiskery. Annoying.

the toothpick jeans seem like a good idea in theory - and indeed, on a stick-figuresque model - but in real life, not so much. I tried those on in the store and not only are they not cut straight down (as the matchstick jeans are) but they taper, meaning those of use whose thighs are bigger than our calves (um, pretty much most women, right?) end up looking very middle-heavy. plus, i could barely get my thighs into them. i have no idea whose body these are made for, but clearly I do not has it.

On the bright side, I love dark wash jeans, but I think I will stick the matchstick, or go over to ann taylor loft for such things

@LafferCurve: Back in the 90s it seemed like the only things that sold for near $100 were their sweaters or boots. Pants and shirts were more like $40.

I have to disagree with you about their sizing. I love buying J.Crew clothing because everything runs rather big so I feel small!

However, I haven't bought anything from them in a while. I remember when I was in high school I used to be able to convince my mom to buy me a J.Crew dress for special occasions. At $60 I thought my mom was being so generous! Today they sell virtually the EXACT same clothing they did then for triple to money!

@lizziesaint: I wonder how long it has been since you tried on their clothing because I used to be able to fit it, now I'm lucky if an XL sweater doesnt look like I'm borrwing it from my slightly smaller friend. I wear the same sizes from everywhere else...
This is an interesting question actually, have their sizes gotten smaller while their prices are bigger?

@didntmeanto: I honestly haven't bought anything from there in quite a while. Possibly 2 or 3 years? But, I do still wear a skirt and a dress I bought there years ago that are both labeled a size 0. I wear a 4 most places now. Sometimes even a size 6 (looking at you, French Connection).

So, maybe their sizes have gotten smaller? We definitely know the prices have gotten larger. If there was a J.Crew somewhere around here I'd go try something on and report back, but, alas, I live in lower Alabama.

@lizziesaint: Their sizes have not gotten smaller. In 2001 I was a size 0/2/XS/S there. Now I'm 10 lbs heavier and their 0/XS is enormous on me. I am very sad because I love their clothes.

They may be sized smaller than some other brands, but they are getting steadily bigger over time, as is every other brand of clothing. Which benefits the majority (but not me, a statistical outlier when it comes to size).

@rhubarbarin: Exact same for me. I fit them wonderfully when I was thinner 5 years ago, now their shirts and pants fit like pijamas and their dresses could fit two of me, and I have only gained weight and fit many other brands normally. They are terrible offenders in the vanity sizing department.

I own a pair of jeans from J. Crew. Well, I got them from Goodwill, but that just means that someone had tailored them for an Incredibly Short Person like myself (I use capital letters to make me feel better about it).

1) I don't understand why clothing companies think they can charge me extra for ripping holes in my jeans. I do a bang up job of abusing my wardrobe staples all by myself, thank you.

2) Why is this Jenna woman supposedly the cat's pajamas? I've seen her townhouse featured in design mags and now I'm being told to emulate her clothing choices too? Is she, like, the Aerin Lauder of blazers or something?

3) What the what what, now? with this Vito guy? He won praise and acclaim and, presumably, wealth for jacking off? Once again, I'm left to wonder what (surely overwhelming) percentage of successful artists are laughing at the admirers gullible enough to swoon over their antics.

Wow, I so disagree that J. Crew is for small breasted thin people- as some others below have confirmed. I am a 32c and have to have ALL of their silk tops taken in about 3 inches under each armpit. Their suit jackets? Forget about them, I would have to be a 30F.

All of their clothing seems to be cut around Jenna, who is really tall and not particularly "skinny", and I find their stuff to be pretty boxy. Case in point, my bff and frequent shopping partner, who is about 5'8 and a size 8-10 sometimes buys their tops in Small and has purchased jackets in a size 4. Come'on. I just received two sweaters from them in the mail yesterday size XS and they are going to my mother who is a 10. The models seem to be thin, but I can almost bet you everything they are wearing is pinned up the wazoo.

@LaFemme: Well since I'm a 38G and there was no way in hell I fit into their tops back when I was a 38D, they don't really seem to be well designed for women with a little more ballast up front. Plus most of their jackets, blouses and sweaters are too narrow in the shoulders for me. And mustn't forget to mention the pants that are too narrow in the hips in the biggest size for me when normally I'm a size smaller than that. (Caveat, my waistline doesn't fit any of the pants anyways, even if the pants made it up over my hips :)
So yes, these clothes are for slender people that are small of breast. While a 32C might seem large to you (and proportionally I agree you do have a lot up top) the actual cut of the clothes favors proportions like yours, narrow build of body and elegant (thus not monstrous or huge) curves to navigate.
I really hate this about their clothes, since I really love the style and would buy the damn stuff if it actually fit me. Well what I could afford of it anyways.

@LaFemme: I agree on the boxy front. And, they do run large. I typically take an XS or 2/0 there and while I am slender, I am about two sizes large in anything designer. I have always wondered how really skinny people shop there. Their clothes are definitely pinned to the heavens on the models.

@Penny: I don't think really skinny people can shop there. We sound like body twins btw; I have to do the same thing with their clothes, and expect to just cough up the cash for alterations on some items if I really like them. I find it really frustrating that I will order something and it will fit me like a black trash bag when it looks like a cute Mad-Men dress in the catalog. I am not the smallest person who could like their clothes, their smallest size should NOT be fitting me like that.

As a professional shoe peddler, the thing that usually works with ballet flats are adhesive heel grips. Most shoe stores either sell them or give them away for free, and it helps the heel from slipping and the shoe from rubbing against the heel too.

@valleyval: Wait, are we saying VS models have big breasts? Because one time I went into a VS and the salesgirl practically choked when I told her what size I wanted, and said they didn't carry it except in a very few lines and they would not be on racks, they'd be "hidden in the drawers."

@redqueenmeg: trust - small breasted ladies have the same problem. they don't make ANY of their cute bras in A cups, and don't even think about shopping there if you're an AA. All their bras are B-D/DD, end of story. And pretty sure most of their models fall into the C-D range, so yes, for those of us As, they do have big boobs.

Ok, fashion editors, please just show me how the damn pants fit. It is important. Because I am going to order my size, the pants will arrive in the mail - I will get excited, only to be let down when I see the material clinging to my thighs. I will then open the catalog and feel depressed looking at the model swimming in her pants.
My day will then go to hell, and I will open a bottle of wine while wearing flannel pajamas.

Seriously, folks. Such things have consequences.

@bluebears: Buy everything on sale and with a coupon code! They also mail out rewards cards if you are a frequent shopper. I've never spent more than 70 dollars on a specific item (that was for a winter coat on super sale). I also have a JCrew card that has frequent rewards, but you have to pay that bish down right away because the APR is like whoa.
