I would have been a sweaty, smelly mess back then. Polyester morphs my naturally rank armpits into Super Swamp Pits, where you can smell me and my unnatural stench from about three miles off. I mean, that stuff radiates. I can barely stand to wash myself after wearing polyester.

The 70s would have meant the end of a social life and I would have ended up as a crazy cat lady.

Old enough to have been in the target audience. Bear with me, youngsters. The red/white/blue was a kind of reverse patriotism--not Nixon's--because those guys would have a stroke at seeing a flag as clothing, curtains--a friend of mine actually got busted for it. Remember Captain America's shirt in "Easy Rider" -- designed to drive straights (different meaning then) wild with fury. Red, white and blue was patriotism via protest as well. But here, somewhat filtered through Sears, of course.

Wasn't Bicentennial pre-excitement or Up With People airheadedness.

Why is everyone so scared of the lobster?

    A) Humans can outrun a lobster

    B) Lobsters are expensive. You just found a free dinner!

@lovely_dinosaur: This was back in the days when no "lady" would allow anything on her to jiggle. EVER. Even pregnant.

I think the girl in the 9th pic down- When they say "bazaar jeans," they mean "bizarre jeans," no? is Shelley Hack (on the right, rainbow belt). I'm pretty certain of it.

She went on to be a very successful model, lots of endorsements, was one of Charlie's Angels at the end iirc, and was memorable in Scorcese's "King of Comedy" as the kind but stern network lady.( I liked her in that.) Playboy recently digitized some full issues, and I came upon an interview with her from 1978 or so- she went to Smith or Wellesley, and much was made of how Ivy League "intellectual" she was. She did seem pretty smart and level-headed about modelling.

Anyway, I do believe that's her..

The guy on the bike reminds me of Jack Tripper in the opening of Three's Company. A purdy lady walks by, and Boom! He falls off his bike.

Also? I love how the lady on the fold-up exercise doo-hickey is clearly wearing a wig, along with her bright blue eye shadow.

Because exercising in a wig would never make sweat pour down your face and over your eyes and through your eye shadow, turning your entire lower face a very lovely shade of sweaty, bright blue.
