Victoria Jackson may have overreacted, but let's not pretend movies aren't marketed differently in different areas/on different channels either.

And it's been marketed the same here, Devonna.
Generally, though, I use the pg-13 as an "OK, it's going to be in the f-bomb/boobs range" - which I'm ok with.
Explaining bestiality on any level with my kids... not a fun day.

Not that I'm going to see the film - it's not really my thing - but I just think Jackson wanted to have a go at Apatow, full stop.

Yeah, I got nothing. Shenuts.

Kevin Blatt: Methinks you're protesting too much and trying to make yourself not look/feel like a douche for MARKETING A SEX TAPE. (Note: it's not working.)
06/20/09
Yeah, that makes it all better for me.

I have no sympathy for people who get offended because they never bothered to think about the movie that they're going to see. Yeah, there's probably a ton of objectionable stuff in Year One, some of the things in the preview pissed me off so I probably won't ever watch it. But think about the things you do for one second. Hm: controversial "dude humor" director + Jack Black + biblical humor + caveman humor = fun for the whole family? Probably not.

This woman is nuts. During the election, she said Obama resembled the anti-christ and that he "hates whitey", and peppered the statement about how the statements would probably hurt her entertainment career. What entertainment career? And then she ends this statement in a similar fashion, suggesting that she and Apatow are both major Hollywood players.
Of course she doesn't need to be a major Hollywood player to have an opinion about a movie, but why say that? It makes her seem even more delusional.

It's fine to critique movies like this as symptoms of larger cultural problems, or what you perceive as cultural problems, but don't come at it from the point of "this wasn't a family movie!" or whatever.

We do not have to take her seriously. In fact, we shouldn't.

Actually, as a Greek, what I don't get is why Americans go bananas over movies that have sex, but movies depicting people blowing each other's heads off are a-OK. This puritan bullshit always baffled me.

Made for some interesting discussions about obscenity during my media law class. No one could explain why we bug out over sex, which almost everybody will have at least once in their lives, but why most don't even blink an eye at someone having their head blown off, which almost no one will ever actually see in their lives.
The discrepancy, it hurts my head.
