I really want to love Ms. Fey, but her appeal for me was ruined by the fact that my ex-girlfriend said Tina Fey was the only woman she'd ever leave me for ... and then she dumped me for a girl named ... Tina. Oh, the cruel irony!

Once again, I have to say that weight loss in middle age is frequently unkind to facial lines. I like you a lot, Tina, and I FIRMLY believe in letting faces age, but if you're choosing your ass over your face...well, maybe there's a reason classy ladies of yore didn't pose in their skivvies past a certain age?

@LimitedLiabilityGirl: But isn't that why God made Botox, Photoshop, and face creams culled from newborn foreskin?

Also, when is one "a certain age" exactly?

I need to mark it on my calendar so I'll know when I can quit working out.

@trublusu: She was chubby before she joined weekend update on SNL. When she was a head writer she would sometimes be an extra in audience shots etc and she was like, normal girl chubby. Not what most networks consider camera-ready. Then by the time she was on Weekend update she was skinny. Also, some tooth adjustments. I love her for the funny, and if she feels more attractive now, more power to her. She's a cutie! In looks and in spirit

Why on earth was DOWD commissioned to write this? Ugh, I'm not wasting my time reading it now. She sucks so hard and is not good enough to qualify for Fey.

I really wish Dowd hadn't written the article.

But I love the cover quote. And I love the part about being virginal in your 20s and hanging out with gay men a lot.

Not that I have any experience at all with that. None whatsoever.

Oh for fuck's sake. I just finished reading the whole thing. It's crazy weight-obsessed. Her husband- who I now think is kind of an idiot- said she was "Rubenesque" in the past. Yeah right. Here come the numbers, sorry, at 5ft 4 1/2 inches she weighed less than 150 pounds. That's making her- at her "round", "heavy" peak- objectively taller and lighter than me. Just shut up Vanity Fair article and all who are in it. You are RUINING MY DAY AND MY MENTAL HEALTH.

Tina, I'm happy you're doing so well now, please stop talking about your weight. You were never fat.

@SkipToMyLou: 5'4 1/2" and less than 150 lbs?! Guess that counts as not thin enough in TV land.

And yes it does ruin my day as well :D

@katsmeow: In TV/fashion you have to weigh thirty pounds less and be six inches taller. It's not an industry that most of us fit in. Which means they miss out on a lot of really awesome and attractive people, who happen to not be what they decided is "ideal." But fuck 'em. I'm more than my dress size, and I don't want to be in an industry that tells me otherwise.

I had noticed that she seems thinner now than she used to, but I think it's a fairly universal byproduct of increased fame and scrutiny that you'd be inclined to work out more and your "team" would encourage you to "tighten" a little bit. I don't think it means she's selling out or anything particularly insidious.

Though the message it sends could be interpreted as very negative. Two sides to every coin and all that.

But let's be real: if she was 30 lbs heavier, they'd never put her on the cover of Vanity Fair.

    Le sigh.

I know I'm the lone voice but let me just say that I've never got her. Don't think she's funny. Didn't think SNL was funny when she was head writer, didn't like Update, don't love 30 Rock and was meh about the Palin thing. I really don't have anything against her, she's just ok. Just throwing it out there.

I think we've come a long way in this culture when our current "America's Sweetheart" is over 35 and respected for her humor and intellect. I know we're getting the glitzy packaged version on all the magazine covers, but I still think it's an awesome upgrade from the Jessica Simpsons and Paris Hiltons and their ilk. So glad THAT era has come to an end - with the Bush years.

There was a similar picture on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. I don't understand why she always has to be dressed in these goofy outfits when she's on a magazine cover.

And I never noticed the scar.

On the one hand I love the cover. On the other, I don't think Tina Fey has to go to those lengths to be appreciated. Yes, she's attractive, but it's not just for her looks.
