Who will win in the fight to be the 'edgiest' young woman around - will it be Gaga or Megan? After the recent use of the word "vagina" in a quote, it was looking like Gaga had it in the bag, however, quick to react is Megan with her own vagina comment. Who will emerge victorious? One analyst predicts the words "taint" and "cunt" could be pulled out as a hail mary if the competition remains this stiff.
I love it when people jump in to defend Megan as if she's soooo misunderstood?
Did Megan just reduce women to their body part? Yes, she did. She did not say men are intimidated by strong women. She has also said women can control men with their vaginas.
And I hate when I hear people call her "edgy" and then say "she says things most women don't have the balls to say" Really? Can you give me some quotes?
Is Megan smart? I'm sure she is, I think she is just not sure how to market herself. On one side she wants to be the sexy thundercat one the flip side she wants people to take her seriously. Women have had this struggle for centuries. So let's not act like she's changing the game up, she's playing the game by the same old Hollywood rules, posing for Mens magazines and talking about sex.
However, their have been other (young) actress who have been able to do it successfully without reducing THEMSELVES to their body parts.
So in the movie Jennifer's Body (which might as well be putting its entire selling point as the title of the film) I should expect in the end Megan these men are just sceaming because they caught a glimpse of the poweful vagina that scares them so much?
My vagina is apparently a huge slacker - it neither speaks nor intimidates men, much less bringing home the bacon. Back in the day it could bring home an occasional sausage.
I'm one of the few people on jezebel who actually like her. I think a lot of her comments were never meant to be taken completely seriously, its just her sense of humor. She's very well spoken and down to earth in her other interviews.
@blazedom: I like HER, I think she is aware of what she is doing, smarter than the average bear, pretty funny, and probably truly neurotic. But I have a hard time liking guys who like her, those who buy the whole Megan Fox "thing". It's like going to see Bruno, everyone was laughing at the wrong parts and just not getting it.
My vagina has the worst case of Tourettes ever, once a month. Good thing I stuff its mouth, or that thing would be out of control. It's stunning intelligence is also why I keep my legs crossed when I'm wearing a skirt. Otherwise, it would far outshine me in conversations.
@Experiment626: Mine swears like a sailor and is always telling people to STFU behind their backs, slowly in a deep voice. Whenever anyones ask who said that, all I can do is shrug.
Not only can it act but it knows krav maga and once gave a speech in front of Congress on single-payer health care. That's one powerful, confident vagina!
Funny that no-one is backing her up. I totally see what she means.
Guys desperately crave female approval, and don't even bother to hide this. The day I see a shaving ad without a woman giving the 'I approve of you' sexyface is the day I realize I know nothing. Moreover, men crave approval of sexual performance. This does lead to anxiety of the ol' lady-bits.
Or, just in a general sense, the power of a straight woman's sexuality is terrifying for many men. I personally have to excuse myself from company to gather my thoughts when an attractive woman is around. It turns my brain to mush, I can't focus at all. I am basically terrified. I'm not being facetious, I genuinely struggle, as do a slight majority of my guy friends.
So I see where she's coming from, and as someone who is so lusted after, I can see why her experiences have led her to believe this. (Edit, I just realize this reads like I'm the one lusted after. Leaving it in as it made my split my sides. I'm talking about her, obviously.)
@Agumen: Yeah, I may not agree with how she puts things sometimes (women having all the power, for instance, is really not the case in the global sense) but I think she's trying to work through and articulate the conflicting sexism in Hollywood in her own way. Everyone wants to define her through their own view of her, which in all likelihood has nothing to do with who she is as a person at all.
@Agumen: Word. That's the whole genius behind the Mona Lisa...the original 'sexy face'.
The power and the confidence that a woman gains from knowing that men want her sexually (and that they are to a great extent beholden to their sexual urges) is both irresistable and intimidating.
jezebel just has its targets and megan is one of them. instead of deconstructing what the girl is trying to say, they just flame away. glad you took the time to do so.
@morninggloria: ok, she's not articulate but most of the time, what she is saying is correct. instead of arguing over semantics, it's best to discuss the meaning. but no, page views are a must and people get a kick out of projecting their own insecurities.
The thing about Fox's quotes is that 1. they're almost always out of context, without the benefit of tone of voice. Like an email, it's hard to tell when/if something is meant ironically or as a joke. So I tend to cut her some slack. 2. Though she tends to say things rather baldly and definitely not PC...she does, to me at least, seem extremely aware of why she's popular and unpopular. She doesn't claim to be a great actress, she clearly feels ambivalent about her fame, and sometimes says wildly inappropriate things.
I just...I find her refreshing, even if she says things I don't agree with.
@tiredfairy: So here is what I do not get then. If acting is so awful and such a horrible job, quit. Sadly I believe this young lady has no clue what else to do with her life but she is fortunate that the Gods gave her amazing genes so she uses what shes got. Sort of like how Angelina Jolie started eh?
@MissFiFi: I think acting is a job, period. Because those who are successful get paid well, it seems like something other than what it is. And the reality is, popularity can end just as quickly as it begins. That big salary you get on one film can be gone the next, and people often only do a film or two a year. It's not the most consistent career. And I know I wouldn't want 4am makeup/hair calls so I can start work at 6am, then do a scene over and over for 12 hours.
While acting isn't "hard" the way being a surgeon is, it's not necessarily easy, either. And the spotlight angle can get weird really quick.
I mean, I think she's been acting since she was a kid. She probably doesn't know anything else. I think we all have that, once we pick a career. I mean, I know I wouldn't be able to just up and do something completely different that I wasn't trained in after nearly a decade in my field.
@tiredfairy: Oh I know it is not an easy job, but I always find it interesting when an actor of any age, she began acting in 2001, complains the whole time. There has to be something about the business you enjoy and if you do not want to work the sex pot angle, don't. It may mean less work, but that is why it is a odd business. You sometimes have to be what you are not to make it. I wouldn't do it.
@MissFiFi: I don't think she complains the whole time. She's said some really positive things about Jennifer's Body and the work there. And if she started 8 years ago she must have been about 14 or 15...so...that's pretty young, really.
What I mostly see her object to is the fame and attitudes around Hollywood, not the act of acting.
I mean, at this point, this girl can't suddenly decide she wants to be like...a dentist. She's too famous. Once you get caught up in that, you have to ride it out as best you can. Plus, she seems to get asked things a lot that, depending on your experiences, will sound more negative than they are.

"Uh, is that what this is a picture of?"
"In a sense, yes. My art has been commended as being strongly vaginal which bothers some men. The word itself makes some men uncomfortable. Vagina."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yes, they don't like hearing it and find it difficult to say whereas without batting an eye a man will refer to his dick or his rod or his Johnson."
"Johnson?"
(I can't be the only one who thought of this...)
