I guess all I'm trying to say is: we think alike and we should be friends. In a totally normal non-creepy way.

@Dorawithanattitude: Gervais is an odd bugger, but he seems to have found a good partner in Elmo.

Passed by a vote of 11-2. Should be noted that Marion Barry was a dissenting vote. I will be so happy to see that man disappear from public life.
Now Archdiocese-- don't be assholes and withdraw your social services. The people still need the support you provide.

I believe there was some talk about it when Prop 8 passed but I don't remember whether there was a real discussion about it. Correct me if I am wrong.

"It's not fair to make this one issue a litmus test as to one's commitment to human rights, to justice, and I resent those who would make it a litmus test."

All she does is try to get busy people who might not be into cooking, to make some simple meals. Personally, I'm not into her show. My tastes run more towards Martha, but I don't hate her for offering something to other people. When I was a teen, learning to cook, I probably would have gotten a lot from her shows.

What's always bothered me about her is that I feel like her show dumbs down food, and it dumbs down entertainment. She talks to her viewers like they're children. Maybe, as you suggested, many of them of are teenagers learning to cook so that's appropriate. But I think she's insulting to an adult audience. Obviously, she's rich from doing it, so I'm in the minority here.

I didn't suggest that many in her audience are teenagers, but that they are beginner cooks. I started cooking as a teenager, I've cooked professionally in my career, but not everyone has. The things she makes are the things that I wanted to learn to make first. There's a lot of value in that. Her audience doesn't think she's insulting them.
She talks to everyone not like they're children, but like a friend who wants to learn to cook. I even saw her do a show with children and she didn't condescend to them at all. Her perky personality isn't for everybody, but there's no reason for you to say that it's fake, unless you need to come up with reasons to hate her.

I don't use EVOO for cooking, but every time I've tried to stop a friend from doing it, they were surprised. Some grocery stores don't even carry regular olive oil. It's hardly a cooking standard.

I get what you're saying, though. Not everyone is an ambitious cook, nor do they need to be pushed in that direction by someone on tv. Some people don't have the time, or the inclination, for that sort of thing.
I get P.O.'d at Martha haters too, people who rag on her for doing things "nobody" has the time for. It's there for people who want it, you know?

One thing's clear, though. You're really passionate about defending her.
11/19/09
And, yeah I'm passionately defending her against a bunch of petty, baseless charges. How is that a bad thing?
11/19/09
However, I did say in my second message that I'd spoken too strongly in my initial post. I also didn't make any "charges" against Rachel Ray. We're not talking facts here, only opinions. I stated an opinion about her public persona - that wasn't necessarily clear in my initial post, but all I was trying to express was that I found her to be cutesy and patronizing to her audience. I, apparently, am not her audience. I'm just not into what she's selling. And that's okay. It's also okay that you are. I don't feel any need to convince you otherwise because we simply have different opinions.
So I'm sorry that I seem to have offended you with my dislike for RR's show. We just have different opinions or tastes, apparently.

Why doesn't SHE start talking about her charitable work? Does she do any? Who the hell would know; all she's done is whine about being a victim. But she's got that down to a T.
