The Department of Homeland Security issued a warning this spring and right wingers wigged out, and the DHS backed down, publicly at least. I wished at the time that they hadn't felt the need to do that, but no doubt they've been investigating all this time.
Oh, and the euphemism I've been hearing for black people since the election is "Obama's friends." These stupid people really think he's going to dismantle the country and give it away as "reparations." Whereas this white woman knows that Obama is the first president in too long who is truly for all the people.
"They were getting very aggressive — of course, that's the nature of these people! They try their best to incite you, so that you will act in an inappropriate fashion, and then they will blame you for your actions."
Taste the bitter, galling irony of that statement.
but even those "can be influenced by the atmosphere around them. Some of the security experts said angry rhetoric and images in the culture can agitate and inspire those loners to cross the line from anger to violence.
I wonder how (and if) this kind of deal connects to the census worker hanged in Kentucky:
@Where The Mild Things Are: The Politico article mentions that in passing but notes that so far, they don't have enough evidence to be sure what really happened there. I mean, it looks pretty clear, but it probably is best to wait for more info.
There's also the case of the census worker being hanged several days ago (with 'FED' written on him) while out trying to register people. Apparently M. Bachmann has made several inflammatory statements about the census recently. Incitement to violence anyone?
As a white male, I've got to say I hate being blamed for my actions! Every time I act like a total D-bag, some liberal comes along and calls me a D-bag! What could be more unfair? It's downright un-American to hold people responsible for what they do! RAAAR! ACORN! LIBERALS!

I fear for my president. I'm afraid he will say the wrong thing and someone will decide they have had enough. I wish I could round people up and subject them to a year long inservice session re: racism, american history, and how it applies to radical wingnuts but no one wants to admit America is inherently flawed. This depresses me.
@EKane: I wish there weren't so much precedent for assassination based on being a liberal or being black, but there is. And every day i try to banish the thought 'Oh, this will not end well.'
@judgingnora: I'm not much of a prayer but I PRAY some higher power (as well as the secret service) protects Barack Obama. I try to banish the thought too but there's enough fucktards in America that have nothing to lose.
@EKane: Let's not blame the victim here. The problem isn't that he'll "say the wrong thing." It's that, to the crazies, there is no possible right thing he could say.
While part of me can go "neener neener you lost" and, as Jon Stewart said, that's not supposed to be fun, I wonder if this will continue when we get the first female president? Will people stand outside and wave tampons around and grumble about how women can't be trusted? Although to be fair, there's plenty of that attitude now. Just like there is racism. But a President Obama seems to bring it to the forefront.
And the anti-choicers would get even more rabid with a female president. They would stand in the family planning aisle at Walgreens and call women whores, or something. I can barely imagine it getting nastier, but I'm sure it would.
I really want to quote from The Source Awards of 30 Rock right now, to ease the tension. He's from the Black family.
@lalaland13: There were hints of some of that during the campaign. Like that dude who yelled at Hillary about ironing or something. Dollars to donuts we'd be dealing with a whole crop of blatant sexist bullshit if that Clinton were president right now.
I'm scared, too. We don't need a martyr, we need a president. I just feel like the police man at the end of V for Vendetta, because I can see how this is all gonna go down if it goes down.
I really don't understand how people consistently favor policies that will harm them directly. The GOP has done more harm to "real Americans" in the last 8 years than Obama and his health reform could do in a lifetime.
Palin supporters say that don't want anyone telling them which doctor they can see or which treatment they can have, but they already do. Anyone that has an HMO is restricted to doctors in their network. And the insurance companies have "death panels" that decide if they will pay for your treatment.
Jezzies, feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken, but many if not most of the reddest states also have higher rates of poverty. But because it's easier to support someone that you like because they remind you of yourself instead of actually thinking about what they're saying, America will remain on of the only industrialized countries without universal healthcare.
And I will be so pissed if Obama passes some lame ass compromise that will financially penalize me for not paying for a bloated plan from a private company. I'm already planning my great escape from this sinking ship and I'm sure that we will see a mass exodus of talented young adults if we continue on this suicidal path
I think I'm going to start an organization that raises money to have planes fly over the Palin house spelling out "SHUT THE FUCK UP" in smoke every few days. Just in case she forgets again...
Guy whining in the post office line yesterday about a slight delay in service: "This is what your FREE healthcare will be like."
Unfortunately I just muttered something about how lousy my healthcare situation is NOW.
Instead I should've rationally told him in greater detail how I'm only working part time and, like many others I have to divide my provider visits into only the most pressing problems first, others postponed.
And I could've told him that my self-paid Blue Cross policy - which doesn't even cover everything - is going up 26 percent in cost in one month. (Why. Because they CAN.) And that HE doesn't have to take any government option if he doesn't want it.
Or I should've just asked, "YOU have good health insurance, buddy? Will it fully cover ER visits? Good."
@NorthernLite: I'm with ya there. Yesterday I was driving, minding my own buisness, even doing the speed limit and suddenly the car with one headlight behind me was tailgating me now with the brights on and yelling something about "Nobama" as he turned and swicthed down the headlights. WTF? I don't understand how making health care more available and more responsive to us as health care consumers is this horrible thing.
I just don't understand why anyone takes her seriously. She quit, she's uninformed, can't speak in complete sentences, etc. I really don't understand her appeal.
Bush was Governor of the second largest State in the country. Reagan of the largest. Why are so many members of the GOP lining up behind her? I think she really hurt McCain once the post-convention bounce wore off.

Why the Democrats have not taken this tack is completely beyond me.
